I seen that this morning, it was really shocking!
Very sad that someone lost their life, my thoughts go out to his wife and young children who were there with him at the end.
I hope now that the organizers of these events finally take some action in regard to this as they have a lot to answer for.
This type of racing looks very similar to F1 but in reality they are worlds apart.
Indie car racing is on a shoe string budget compared with F1, yet some of their cars can go just as fast if not faster yet don't have to adhere to the kind of safety regulations that exist in F1.
If you notice the track isn't even surrounded by tyre walls, they have concrete walls all the way around.
What chance does someone have if they're going 200mph towards a solid concrete wall?!
Hopefully something positive comes out of this for the other drivers who take part in these races, just such a shame it had to come to this before people take notice.
Totally agree Infamous. I dont know if you have ever been to one of the American raceway tracks, but we went to Daytona for the tour. When there is a race on you can stand about 1 metre from the track. There is a concrete wall with impact absorption 'stuff' in it up to about 4 or 5 foot from the track level, above that is a chain link fence. The photos below were taken just after a bend, at the bottom and start of the main grandstand. The car in the photo is doing 170mph and it was less than 5m from me .....

The video shows it a little better. When you first see the cars on the far side of hte track they are about 1 mile away ...
