Yeah, you have a point. Did a track day years ago with Alan from AC Performance.
We were in a couple of old E30's, a 325i coupe and a 320ix (rare). They were minters, but looked like shite boxes compared to the Cateram 7's, E46 M3's, 911's and so on.

Nobody was watching us until all the expensive cars kept pitting after 5 laps for a nervous inspection whilst we stayed out for 25 laps at a time. We would come sliding around the main bend sideways with the full beams and fogs on and go screaming past the start line to everyones cheers. Cars would overheat at about 15 laps, so we did one "slow" lap and they dropped back to normal temp for another ten. They were amazing, relentless machines and proved to be the most entertaining and popular of the day.

Granted, the brand new pads and tyres put on that morning were GONE by the end of the day and one of them blew off the back box n all. They were tidied up and sold on for a profit.

It is fun to be a wolf in sheeps clothing sometimes!

Imagine everyone surprise when you start up a 200+bhp 800kg (once lightened) V6, some would laugh as you roll it off the trailer soon to cry when you kick their ass on the tarmac. I reckon you could fairly easily get tubby bashing performance ... 0-60 in 5 secs or less perhaps with loads of torque.

What every you pick the lightening procedure is bound to be fun .... ripping stuff out

The process in a Mrk I is a whole heap different (welding, fabrication etc), the Mrk II is basically a bolt in kit and just do the wiring which can be tricky, but we have Swagger, then weld up a bit of exhaust work.

Nice V6 build vid....

Check this out too, full of step by step, contacts, tips, what not to do etc.

This guy is a champion though, did it all himself in his garage in a couple of weeks and with such detail. A couple of hours worth of reading in total, unless you just breeze through the pics.

www.mr2oc.co.uk/forums/125/118180.html

He highly recommends Paul Woods' idiots guide to wiring a Camry V6 into an SW20, found on TwoBrutal (I am not registered there so can't search it)

So there is our loom guide. If it is as good a guide as he says, I will have no problem doing the wiring.

Ok is it time to look for a car, I am thinking a fund of around €250 to 300, that will easily cover the cost of buying the car and give us a good months work of saturdays.
Then we will be looking to spend some more.

Tony are you in on this one.

Here is one possibility, in Waterford though!

cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1510482

And another, but that might be to much money, though it has leather seats to sell on.

The tubby wouldn't need an engine conversion. You could lighten and track it straight away (if you could handle the power of the tubster, Ray )

Ray, I am going have to pull out of this. Monetary reasons but mostly time. I cant see me getting 4 + full Saturdays in a row to work on this. Actually, I know I wont. As it is, I find it very hard to get time out by myself at all at weekends.

Really sorry buddy!

Nope that was one of the cars I posted up, all the more to bargain with but that red one is nice indeed.

When we were buying the GFs Celica, we came across one with no book. It's a bad sign, walk away. The Celica guy just rolled out bullshit and I eventually caught him out on a lie, then another and told him to stick it.

Right guys, I have just realised that my Mrk 1 will never see the road due to alot of factors, so I am proposing that the Mrk I V6 I have gets used as an MR2.ie track car instead.

Now I need to consider the details on this one, I spent a few bob buying it a couple of years ago, I am not looking for a return out of this, but to enjoy the crack of working / racing the car with fellow site members.

I will think about it and update later.

Ok Ray, I know you are thinking along the lines of using the MK1 now, but I MAY have come across a nice MK2 for you. I will know tomorrow for sure.

Bit of a story about how I found out about this, but long story short, a couple of young lads from where I grew up, bought a two with the intentions of running a track day car and never thought about trailers etc etc...and have it a year sitting in a garage.

I have not seen it yet, but will go and look once I get confirmation that they still have it (friend of a friend kinda thing)

Apparently it has lots of goodies, ideal for track, competition box and clutch, drilled discs and so on and I have been told that it is running and all.....

Best part is, I have been assured that 400euro will take it.

Interested?

Forgot to update here, just gave Ray a buzz yesterday.

I looked at that 2 on Tuesday evening. Scrapheap challenge im afraid. Besides it being a manky green that was applied by hand with an old brush, panels are all out of line, badly. Flat tyres, no battery all for starters. He said it runs, but with no battery in it, I couldn't check, plus the last time it was running was like March, so God knows whats wrong with it now.

Further more, bits missing, badly cracked up windscreen and a badly cracked up sunroof. Both a huge no no for track. Would need way too much work. I wouldn't even break this thing for parts to be totally honest. Shame, but there are more out there that are street legal for a couple of hundred more....and the search continues.

Oh, this is my 2000th post! Whoohoo!

Didn't have any bro. It was bare bones. Was even missing one of the front lenses and the interior was already stripped. Not much you could take off this thing. The only thing id be bothered ripping off it would be the short shifter, looked so out of place all clean and shiney.
