123 wont cover jap imports+dont think they will touch you on a two unless your 30yrs old or over. Try first ireland and axa-they do cover on jap imports.

123.ie will definitely insure you on Jap imports and an mr2 turbo cause I am I got insured last year at 23yr no previous own driver experience for 1500 and this year it dropped to 1000e. Spensive but really not so bad for my age/experience

My car is a '94 Jap import and i'm with 123.ie for the last 2 years (but I'm over 30)
I believe Campion & Sparrow insured MR2s www.sparrowins.ie/car_insurance.php (I think this is their link).
Best of luck with the search.

I too am insured on a jap import with 123. But as of May of this year they no longer accept new business if your car is imported. Check point 5 under the heading of Your Car on the disclosure requirements in the link below.
www.123.ie/include/default/motor/html/quote_assumptions.htm
They also ask you directly if its a jap import when you look for a quote by phone.
I found this out when I looked for a quote on a mr2 turbo. 123 told me they will continue to offer renewals if you are currently insured with them on a jap import but they wont take on any new business.
I also believe they may have changed the age requirements on higher risk category cars to 30yrs and over. This wont affect you basch as they cant apply these new changes retroactively-unless you let your policy lapse-so dont

I started a policy with axa over the summer as they were pretty much the only option. Now they don't insure japs either? Do they have to renew my policy next year? What will we do when nobody insures japs?

I'm with 123 too. I had a Galant insured with them, jap, and i got the policy transfered on the 2. Cost me 120 extra for fully comp plus the ncb protection. I'm 28, and have 3 years ncb, no points. When i rang the next day to get my wife insured on the galant they wont cover her.

I think someone has to clean up this mess, why not cover imports ? what does it even mean ? car is registred, roadworthy - has NCT and driver has full licence - done .. can't refuse, that's how it works in other eu countries - so if someone has Vits instead of Yaris wont get insurance ? nonsens
I am with 123, 29 full no claim no points, just got renewal old rules.
So please make new cars more affortable, RWD, fast, and with fun factor to encourage me to get out of my Jap "scrap" - maybe I will - but don't fxxxx force me to drive 1.2 poverty spec fiesta by making impossible to keep my car running, even dough it runs well for 16 years now - THATS WHY I HAVE IT
So now me and "Johny" have 96 turbo mr2-s, I have 123 but Johny can't cause rules changed - both same age bla bla - discrimination ???

Its a bit of a joke alright but then the insurance companies have always taken the piss in this country. Apparently its down to imports being stolen more frequently and not necessarily cos they're higher in power. was reading on boards that a fella with 99 toyota vitz 1.0 auto was refused a policy cos it was an import. something to do with imports not having immobilisers fitted as standard. who knows!!

Liberty insurance got qutite better after taking over,at one point i got quote for my dad,me and brother who is 23 at the moment of 23y for just over 800,only trick doing this stuff online is to enter the proper details and see correct quote as i was trying different options and eventually my quote got bigger, when asked why they replied it was due to rate changes everyday ,and were asking for older reference numbers if i wanted to get the price i had before,so dunno. As for stuff that the car is import is ridiculous yeah some of them are really powerful and attract attention, but theres many bangers going around with 3l engines and plenty of power if stripped down that wouldnt attract to much attention if your planing to rob a bank ,just my oppinion.

Yes Irish car in ROI, suspension and engine mods declared. You need a daily driver though and have a 3k miles limit...dunno how they're meant to measure that though...

I dont want to speak too soon but is insurance getting a bit cheaper for us?
Check out the difference before and after christmas.ref:AonInsure
13/11/12
Comprehensive €851.33
Third Party, Fire & Theft €775.85
03/01/13
Comprehensive €706.74
Third Party, Fire & Theft €643.38
My Insurance isnt up till June but I really need to get some cheap deals going in order to save a bit of cash.

The magic number is 500e. I'd love to be back to reasonable figures. A jump from 250e to 680e was not welcome.

Give Marian Reed at AXA a try on 1890-247365. She was very helpful for my renewal last year. Let her know that you were recommended by mr2.ie and she will look for ways to reduce the premium.

I've tried Liberty for the beemer and MR2, waste of time, they were looking for 900 yoyos for the BMW, got it with chill.ie for 550. Wouldn't even quote the MR2 when they heard the word "Turbo"

The problem when it comes to insurance is the issue of companies not issuing imports. Even 123 have stopped insuring imports. First Ireland.might be worth a ring, they're the only other company.i know that will insure imports.
