Anyone used Retro cars at Baldonnel? 11 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 314
I'm looking at getting Retro cars to do some rust repairs (sills) for me. They seem to have a good name over on Octane.ie

Anyone have any first hand experience with their work and time keeping? (i.e. I need my car done and dusted in a couple of days not sent in for months).

BTW I dropped over to their workshop on Saturday and there was a chap with a white Mk1 there, I gave him a club card so hello if you're reading this

I have been meaing to rop into the for a while now to get rid of some surface rust, sort out the sills and seal the underside of the car.

I have read the Octane reviews as well and they seem to be very proactive in resolving any possible corrosion issues prior to sealing and keeping the customer in the loop.

Perhaps they would do a group discount, if we got enough names down on a list.

Not a bad idea slip. They seem to be renowned for their underseal work. I'm a bit underpressure to get the sills done for NCT but may come back later for a proper underseal when I have a bit more time to hand.

All of life’s problems can be solved with two things—duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn’t, you need duct tape. And if it doesn’t move and it should, you need WD40

Picked up my car earlier from Retro cars. I have to say I'm very impressed with the work they did. Really my sills look great. I will take a close look tomorrow but from what I've seen so far the work is first class. I would say that they haven't looked so good since my car left the factory.

My sills were black previously, I had them colour match them to the body and not worry about stone chip protection, because my intention is to fit side skirts that will cover them anyway. They had some trouble colour matching to the body but that was because the paint shop was not aware of the JDM colour codes. I don't mind so much as I was planning on having them done properly with some other touch ups I want to get done (mirrors etc).

Shane has promised me some photos of the work in progress to post up here, I haven't seen them yet but at the moment I would have no hesitation in recommending Retro cars as they are real enthusiasts who love cars and car club guys and old sports cars are their preferred patients to work on!

Furthermore I told Shane that a few MR2 guys would like to have an underseal treatment and he said he would give a group buy price for five cars - 20% off. Going by their pricing, it looks like it would be 20% off 275eur but I will confirm that with him.

Tom's! www.mr2.ie/mr2-forum/8-performance-and-r...mr2-reference-thread

btw, I checked with Shane and he said it's the small car price so that would be 20% of 275eur if we get 5 cars

Shane @ Retro Cars sent me on some pics taken during the work they did on my car. I asked them to take these so I could post them up here to give people an idea of what level they go to.

One of the things that impressed me about Retro cars is that they can take what is an absolute mess and turn it back in to 'close to factory' with custom work. Certainly from the outside you can not even tell if it's been repaired. If they had original panels to work with there is no doubt in my mind that they could get back to factory quality, however unfortunately MK2 MR2 sills are no longer available from Toyota...

Passenger's side
Note that when I brought the car in, there was only one small bubble on the passenger side which indicated there could be a problem, no holes, and no visible brown stain. What was hiding underneath however was a different story...

They worked on the inner and outer skin, and also the bottom of the rear arch:

I don't have further pics of the passenger side, but read on..

Driver's side
This side I knew there was a solid infestation, once again no holes, but there was a good bit of bubbling and what looked like a brown stain appearing in the colour of the paint. The pics look bad, but in truth I thought it would have looked worse:

Both sills were also waxed and then resprayed with colour match and a clear coat. I will take some pics of the finished job soon, but rest assured I was delighted with the end result and you really can't even tell it has been altered since the day it left the factory.

Thanks once again Retro Cars.

They're spraying bits and bobs now, but I think their plan is to get a proper booth in action over the next couple of months.

Sent Anniversary model No. 1 up to Shane on Thursday night for a tidy up of one jacking point and rust prevention treatment and Schutz under-seal to the underside and rear wheel arches. Collected the car Friday evening at 16:00 as promised.

Shane was a pleasure to deal with and fair with his price for the work done. I will get the cavities waxoyl'd when I get a chance later in the year by him.

Will post up pictures when I get a chance.
