I looked into this a few years back and its a pain !

There are a few problems - one is to get enough light out - for lightng up the road and NCT. If the lights are set too far back, then they can't light the road properly.

Another issue is being abe to adjust them for the NCT and having them sealed properly etc

The best by far, IMO, were a once off set by Ryan G years back. I actually got a second set of mounts from Ryan and I also had a set from Troy Trueleo and looked at trying to make up a set. Hard enough to find a lamp which will fit the small area and give hi/lo beam. I also looked at a twin lamp - with one angled slightly down for dip beam.

Anyway, it all gave me a headache and they were binned

At the moment, I am thinking to use 4"x6" lamps from a GTO and have low rise popups.

$120 just for delivery?! obviously they don't want your business I'd say you could make something like that yourself, make a mould out of mdf and the make a make a fibre glass housing out of it

Any idea what you're going to make the lens from ?

Anyway, hope you get this up and running - I'll def take a set off you. If it works out, you could make a nice bit of $$$ from owners here, in UK and US

I know they're not flushmount but check out thread below - go down to post from a guy from an MR2 forum in Germany. Guy over there is making low rise 4"x6" e-marked lights.

I joined mr2-forum.de and put my name down for a set. Well, at least I think I got my name down - its all Double Deutsche to me

IMOC link to low-rise rectangular headlights

Guy is making about 4 per week and I think 80 people ahead of me

170 is a bargain but I'm not sure if I have to source my own lights. According to the pics, it seems like lamps are supplied. But if German, they might be e-marked but they will fail NCT because they're for the wrong side of the road ?

May have to buy the kit and then find a second hand set of UK GTO headlights ....

I just bought a set of 4"x6" GTO headlights for only 42 euros delivered.

Hopefully over the next month or two, I'll figure out how to get them mounted for my low-rise look

Got them on eBay. I just check sometimes and they come up every now and again. But I never saw them that cheap.

I think I saw another set on eBay for £60 + P&P.

A while back, I found a guy breaking a GTO over here but he wanted 200 euros !! How can we suport buying in Ireland when people in Ireland are stll trying to rip us off

Gonna bump this back up!!

I still REALLY want flush mount headlights. Would it really be that hard to find some 50mm projector headlight units?

The appeal of the mk2 (among other things) was the popup lights...but sure if we were all the same life would be boring....judging from an impartial view the flush lights on the black car in the thread doesn't look that great.

If you are registered on mr2oc.com, check out these Fiat Coupe flushmounts - they are in progress at the mo but the guy is showing a lot of detail in his build.

I personally think it's a sin to take out the pop ups, it's part of the character of an MR2, one of the reasons I never really took to the MK3 like the MK1 and MK2. Have you considered the REV6 pop ups?

I agree that the factory units are too high and look like air brakes, but the REV6 units only come up to about a 3rd of the factory height. They are sleek, sexy and effective and they use the projector style lights that you posted a link to.

Of course, everyone has their own taste and opinion, this is just my view. Good luck getting something sorted out.

Hmm, took the motor out for a spin this evening and I think I would miss the flip up aspect. I considered the REV6 but I cannot justify paying that amount with some of the feedback they have received.

But I may look into fabricating a set. I may eat my words, but it can't be that difficult, can it?!
