Perfect Shine 9 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 72
Well after meeting some very nice RED MR2's at the Joe O'Reilly run over the weekend I felt that I had to put pen to paper and add this piece.

guidetodetailing.com/detailing-fanatics/the-perfect-shine/

To say that I was a little jealous of the respreayed cars is an understatement. My deuce is 19 yrs old I suppose so doesn't take to the catwalk like she used !!!

It has made me think more about getting her buffed up again and to get a good sealer on it after. So which will it be, Optiseal, Jetseal or Klass. Decisions, decisions......

G6 cutting compound is very good for bringing back red coloured cars.
I know there are different grades depending on how bad your paint work is.
Going by your paint work sunday.. It should bring it back up very good.
And a good sealer should protect it for awhile.
If ur interested in getting it done bring it down to me and ill give ya a price.

I don't have a polishing machine so use Mequires 3 step after Leesw20's advice (thanks)
1. Paint Cleaner
2. Polish
3. Carnauba Wax
I apply using the G3 waffle pads, cloths for each and loads of elbow grease.

I had some paint damage after covering the car with a cheap tarpaulin but was very surprised with the results of using above, got the paint back 95%+

Have no experience re sealers but the Jetseal looks good for long term protection.

I might treat her to a bath tonight after the weekends cruise,, think she deserves it

Thanks skybound for advice. So far I did step 1 and 2 only and color shine for 2 weeks only on my red and then was going to something like Punky has.

Would it be what you use?

Is this good deal?

My is in need for repaint but all depends on mechanics first before I give her respray.
(Damian - I will send you pm when I wish to leave my MR2 with you;)

when I got my 2 first it was nearly pink and then I washed it with some really strong car wash like a dummy.then it turned pink.ha..I used this really good compound and then polish.I don't know the name of it because it was some foreighn name.took me around 4 hours with the buffing machine and it came up like new..will find out the name for ya.just be carefull if you use the buffer because it can lift the paint off the edges and corners on these old cars.ha

@ Lukesander - you can get the Mequires & G3 Waffles in Halfrauds
The Mequires Carnauba wax is pretty effective at protecting after polishing (€12 ish / bottle)
You would need a machine (& talent) to compound effectively ..

What a lovely day. Cannot believe how nice it was so nice I decided to take my arsenal of Autoglym products and give the old girl a good buff and rub. It sure did bring out a bit of a shine so must keep it up!

Halfrauds are doing the 3 for 2 offer in case anyone is interested.

Thanks.

Nice days so I may found that compound. Really need machine to wax car? I may try do it by hand. I can see all little scratches that way;)
So wash and wax today as I polished it just last Friday.
By the way. Mobil Oil 20% discount in Halfords. Good to have some as its taking it a bit...

well since I am a detailer I suppose ill tell ya the best methods I use to bring it back and keep it red I do this all the time to my own car I know its white but they fade aswell anybody who knows my car knows how good the paint is all year round but you have to put in the effort every 3-4 months.

right to bring it back to showroom red I will advise you to use a D.A machine polisher they are cheap and wont burn the paint you can get the full kit on cleancar.ie you will need this in the future if ur holding onto the car so its definatley worth the investment keep all ur cars showroom condition

1.two bucket wash
2. de tar ( vital before machine polish)
3.claybar
4.compound( I find the mcguires heavy cut compound the best out of everything)
5. polish( mcguires finishing polish)
6. carnuba wax ( 2 coats)

I personally think sealants are a waste of money they aren't good in this country if ur using the car all the time, everytime u detar the car ur stripping whatever sealant is on it so its a waste I use a carnuba wax they protect the paint for upto 2-4 months depending on ur shampoo really.

and then to keep the car do a 2 bucket wash every week and every 3-4 months give it a 2 bucket wash, de tar, wax (2 coats).

and once a year a claybar and a quick rub with the polishing pad on the machine to refreshen the red or if u want every six months with the polishing pad

once its prepped every 3-4 months it should keep the red B)send me a pm if u have any questions
