iv been having the same problem just checked it out today and i see my control arm bushings are f..ked but im not entirely sure if that's it 100% but will know more after i replace the bushings

just wondering does anyone recommend polyurethane one or the original ones. iv a coil-over suspension in it and don't want to ruin the ride quality by making it too hard or noisy. any tips ????

There are a few different types of poly brushes depending on what you want from them.

I just want a bushing up from the rubber not to hard for noise just the softest polybushin

I would recommend Powerflex bushings.

I fitted them to my MR2 years ago. No harshness and tightens the cars handling.

I can't find the outer control arm bushing in powerflex

Some troubleshooting from my Toyota MR2 bgb.

Something very odd happined today I swapped my 225 to the front and 195 to the rear and the swaying stopped its near perfect now. Anyone explain that. ?

I've just received these (what look like PFR76-305 fits Rev 1&2 models 1989 to 1992 and uses a M14 bolt) from MR2ben, however there is slight play between the bolt and the metal tube, its not a snug fit. I need this to be 100%, no play other than the rubber moving whne it has to.

"The outer bearing that the rear tie rod on the MKII MR2 attaches to is pressed into the wheel carrier/hub assembly and Toyota won't sell you a replacement unless you buy the entire carrier/hub assembly.
It has been known for a few years that a replacement for the bearing is available from Toyota, in the form of a Camry All-Trac part. The problem is that the center hole in this bearing is for a 14mm bolt while the MR2 uses a 12mm bolt. We have countered this issue by having custom spacers machined that slip into the bearing and fit a 12mm bolt.

This bearing presses into the MR2 hub and refreshes your worn out rear tie rod bearing. While it is not an MR2 specific part, it has been used successfully by many people over the past 5 years and is significantly cheaper than buying a new hub carrier!"

I am surprised that you have play with the powerflex part. I had no problems with any of their parts.

The part you are referring to from twosrus is for a different part of the car. As the description says,it is a bearing.

No, its not a bearing, its a bush (strange they call it a bearing), its the lower bush on the hub that the rear adjustable tracking arms bolt to. Thats the only main bush that doesn't come in the Powerflex kit, hence I just noticed I never replaced it. I bet many people have not bothered with it, buts its an important one if you want it 100%

Got these from MR2Ben. I dumped the galvanised bolts that came with them (too much play inside the bush), and had these bolts made up by my local precision engineering firm

Do you have any measurements for your custom bolts ?

It would be handy to know for future reference.

If you're getting the Bushes from MR2Ben online or ebay shop, they come with 14mm dia bolts, which have slack. Mine were made by Bob Hasset, Hassett precision engineering of Smithstown, Shannon

I bought a stepped 14mm drill bit on ebay (so it'd fit my standard electric drill chuck), which is needed to open up the holes in the link bars, so the new bolts fit. Not cheap (€120 the pair- cash), but absolutely spot on in every way. The pitch of the galvanised bolts from MR2ben is not correct for the application IMHO, although they come with locknuts, from an engineering point of view, and need much less thread coarse pitch. High grade stainless, I used strong threadlock.

I paid a lot for these, got to the stage where I'd do anything to be able to control the car at very high speed, better over-engineer than under. Its so great for motorway cruising, I'm very happy, looking forward to the next trip across Europe.
