Hey all, below is a copy PM I got from Scott on IMOC regarding JAE (Japanese Auto Extra
vaganza. I believe this is a great event and is well worth attending.

So if anybody is interested in heading over put your names down on the list and we will sort out the details over the coming month or two. I won't be joining whoever goes, as it doesn't work with family commitments.

"Hi mate,
Hope all is well.

I was wondering of yourself and your fellow Irish club members were interested in joining IMOC, Mk1 Club and ROC at this years JAE at Wicksteed Park in Northamption?
I would like to extend an official invite to yourselves to be included in the 'MR2 Village' we have.

Last year was an awesome show, and we hired a marquee, generator, a free hog roast on the Saturday night, Wii and Guitar Hero, Freeview box to watch the Gp...and loads more! This year we will be doing all of the above...plus more.
Tickets are priced at just £20 for the whole weekend including entry and camping and everything i have listed above.

If its ok with you can you post up an official invite on your forum? I am also going to invite other clubs from France, Holland, Belgium, Germany etc.

Let me know what you think.

Kind regards

Scott"

What is JAE?
The Japanese Auto Extravaganza (JAE) is the ultimate Japanese car club event for the keen owner, enthusiast and enthusiastic amateur.

Over the course of a weekend it is the place for like minded owners and traders to meet up and enjoy what is the popular Japanese car culture, it has been previously quoted as "the perfect way to business"

JAE began as a meeting of Datsun Z club members as far back as 1991 and with the growing interest in Japanese cars as both classics and modern super cars since that time, it has grown to the largest gathering of Japanese vehicles of all types in Europe and continues to grow steadily without forgetting its roots.

With everything from 60's (and earlier) classic / retro machines to the latest electronically controlled supercars, the show WILL have for everyone throughout the weekend!

The event is open to members of all Japanese car clubs or just private individuals. As a visitor, please see the Event info page. If you run a Japanese car club and wish to register your car club with JAE then please check out the Club Info. page, it will be fantastic to see your club there regardless of how big or small it is, we all have the same goal, the same love and that is Japanese cars.

Traders are also very welcome and play a big part is the whole feel of JAE, if you have been before as a Trader you will know how popular the event is with the enthusiasts seeking out the latest gadget or hard to find part, if you haven't been before then you do not know what you have been missing! Visit the Trader Info. page for more.

There is camping for the hardcore weekenders amongst us which is a very popular option with families as well as clubs and makes the whole event!

I think I priced this up - approx 260 euros per car return. So, 130 per person.

Local TraveLodge is £52. So, boat and accomodation is 200 euros.

Then £20 entry to the show and food/drink/petrol for the weekend. I'd say around 350 euros for the full weekend.

Ferry based on leaving Thu evening at 9, arriving at midnight and drive over to JAE for early arrival (and a bit of kip!).

I'm doubtful for 2010 but if we were to put it in the 2011 calendar, I'd make sure I free myself up for it.

two tanks of petrol = £100

alcohol and other food not at show = £50-100

I looked at going to this show but I reckon it was going to cost close to £500 with only a little difference if you through in a passenger who doesn't pay their half

Pricey weekend

The MR2OC have a large stand there as well. They have chosen not to be part of 'the village' this year, so if anyone does head over remember to say hello from me and the rest of the OC members in Ireland

I have also been researching the options of flying over for the day. Cheap flights, train to Kettering and taxi to Wicksteed plus entry could all be done for less than £100 +food and drink. Might still be keen to do it, depends on holidays with Mrs Spanky

I would really love to go to this, but for 400euro I got two weeks in Turkey last year including flights and transfers, breakfast and lunch every day in a 4 star hotel.

exactly swag-slag

If anyone fancies looking into flying over for a day then post up here and we can look into it.

I think Luton airport is the one that has a direct train link to kettering. 30 mins and about £15 to get there plus a short taxi ride (about 1 mile).

Its do-able and would give you enough time to have a good look round hte show before heading home on a late(ish) flight

Sorry, I did not realise how much it was for you guys on the ferry!
Cheapest i can find is £234 Dublin > Holyhead.

I can see that the cost is quite prohibitive for you to attend which is such a shame. Why is the ferry so much??? I was thinking it was only going to be around £60-£70!

No worries, mate! Most of us would love to go, but it is what it is, which is more expensive than two weeks by a pool unfortunately!

At the minute, a return flight Dublin - Luton - Dublin is €30 including taxes. This leave Dub at 8:15am and leave Luton at 8:25pm.

Train from Luton to Kettering return is £19.10 on Trainline.com

Taxi or walk from Kettering train station to show (about 1 miles)

Add the entry to the show and you are looking at around €50/£40 plus spending money for a day trip.

Anyone fancy it? swag??

To get the flights at the right price I think we need to book ASAP. Can we make a final decision by this weekend, Sat 26th June?? more can jump on right up till the date anyway.

I can get a flight from Belfast that will get me in about 30 minutes after the Ryanair Dublin flight. I might get that over and the Ryanair one back to Dub with you guys, then bus to the North. That way, no car & some booooooze. MAKes my travelling easier rather then heading to Dublin airport for 7am - would mean leaving mine at about 5am and god knows I need my beauty sleep.

For those in NI - the Belfast flight I am talking about is currently £25 (ish) with Sl-easyjet.

OK guys and gals. Put you name here if you fancy it (JAE that is) for 1 day, Saturday 11th September

Any chance of getting a flight home on the Sunday morning? Bearing in mind we have a hogroast booked, fireworks, we will have our own band playing etc...the Saturday night will be a great night. Just pack a tent and you are away! I am sure we could even arrange for a convoyo of MR2's to pick you up and drop you off from/to the station as well.

I'd rather walk .... rumour has it that you are all MK3 drivers

Personally I'd probably come back the same day ... brownie points usage etc etc

Good man Dave.

Is it fair to say that with 3/4 or more (that's not three quarters btw) that this is on??

I would say that we have 3.5 at the minute. Just need to decide if its a 1 or 2 day trip and see what other log in in the next week or so before booking anything.

I think this will be good craic .... get your names on the list if you fancy joining the group.

I'm not sure how many cars Scott will have in his section but I know MR2OC are planning to have about 50 in theirs, so plenty of 2's to have a poke around (though only the Carib.Blue ones are worth looking at )

Now, now Marktina, don't be upset, I understand that you are upset, but I can't put into words how I feel. As a man it is difficult for me to grasp that I may have upset you with what I said. It is after all only a MR2 Turbo

Would really like to head over but I can't, to many other family blah, blah, blah stuff to deal with and the taxman has all my money, as yours will probably be doing to you in todays budget.

Enjoy it.

Spanky, I reckon with 4 or 5 people, its on, yeah...would be magic to see 50 MR2's together, some serious photo opps, lots to see and learn.

Oh and I think/suggest, that for the effort of going over, we probably should stay over, chill and have a few brewskis...

Exactly...you get to have some of the hog roast then as well!

£20 will get you your entrance ticket for the weekend, a big portion of pig in a bun with all the trimmings, camping (if you are hard enough ) and the use of all the facilities that we are hiring in, including the marquee, generator, tables/chairs etc etc.

Last year we had 120 cars on our stand from IMOC, Mk1 Club and ROC. We are hoping for similar numbers this year. The current IMOC list stands at around 40, that is not taking into account the other clubs.

Have a peek at this thread for some of the pics from last year.

www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=123685

We will also (TBC) have a band playing for us on the Saturday night provided free of charge by one of our members.
