Cars 'n Coffee anyone ? (thanks Frank!) 1 Year, 6 Months ago

After seeing Franks posts about Cars n Coffee in Texas, I thought about getting it going here.
Now, we could go with a large car park and some coffee place outside with seats. Costa Coffee in Blanch is literally right beside the car park. However, if we wanted to keep/reserve a public area in a car park, it might be better to get an area away from the front line car park spaces.
So, I was thinking - this is not going to work every month because we don't have the weather for outdoor meets all the time ! So, maybe better to open it up to various clubs and just have it yearly or maybe 2 or 3 Summer months ?
Going on from this - if we have it back away from the shops, we could use the car park near Halfords and get them to sponsor a show 'n shine for the day.
Also, get one of those mobile coffee trailers, crepe stands etc to come along.
If we keep it to MR2s, the turnout may be smallish. Would be nice to open it up to other clubs.
Post up any ideas, suggestions
I suppose if we look to get something that might have a lot of cars, we should really inform Gardai etc. If we ask Halfords about sponsorship, maybe they can talk to car park owners and organise reserving an area in the car park. Better if Halfords do the talking than us !
Also, if we want it this year, what date options to we have ?
Aug 7th or 8th ? Or Sep 4th or 5th ?
Anyone have mates/contacts in other clubs ? August is probably too late in terms of organising everything. So, best for us to decide on a date and then tell the other clubs ?

I love the idea as well but I think the logistics of planning it would mean you should give yourself a few months at least.
Probably best to figure out a location first (including the store, cofee shop etc), then estimate the maximum number of participants, then open it up to every car club we can find in Ireland.
The the more exotic/rare makes like Noble, Holden and so on
There is a massive amount of organising in this as you would probably need to consider issuing entry numbers to all, and the cops would need to be involved.
The other option is to start small (always a good idea). We could have a Jap only cars and coffee, limiting it to the main four (Toy, Hon, Sub & Mits). Even this would probably involve about 20 owners clubs.

I reckon the whole naming will mean it will only work in Summer months. So, realistically looking at Cars 'n Coffee 2011. As Spanky said, it'd mean a lot of planning and shared responsibility to orgaise it but I'd be up for it.
We'd need to think about the whole image. I reckon with a lot of Jap cars, they'll be into drag, drifting etc. So, Cars 'n Coffee might not appeal. However, we would still go out to all clubs. I'd love if we could attract Porsche club, other supercars.
Do we think we've time to get a scaled down Cars 'n Coffee for Sep 4th or 5th ?
I know its going against the whole JDM thing but if it gets a name of a Jap event, I think it will mean other "top marques" will not turn up. Like it or not - the JDM scene has somewhat of a reputation with being Boy Racers. Don't get me wrong - I'd love to see MR2s and other JDM cars at it - but I think we have to be careful about how we market it.
If we can do it right for 2011, big potential to attract a sponsor like Nescafe or Starbucks.
They have a European section on their homepage but the link doesn't take you anywhere they might be happy with someone trying to start something in Europe

cars and coffee is not copyright beside their website. we have this meet here in several different area. and all done by different group. my best bet is to post up a nice wallpaper showing them that it's a friendly cars show for all the family. and feel free to use any of the video from here. so, ppl can see what kind of the event it is. as you can see from pic from the web site itself. alot of family show up to check out cars. and that is the point you want to try to get out there. you really don't want ppl that show up doing burn out and and loud music and etc...
at our other monthly meet. which is urban speed. they hire a D.J which made it less boring then just looking at cars with no sound. i believe if you look at the new video i posted up for urban speed. you can hear and feel what type of places it is with the music. beside the burn out at the end. damn old ppl.

This seems to be run via the vendors in the states and not the car clubs themselves. Such as yesterdays event in AC (cheers for getting a quote for me Dave +KC).
Now if I am not mistaken, Ireland is a nation of begrudgers and so an element would be more than happy to begrudge somebody's car physically. We are not the open minded and progressive society we purport to be. Add the fact that prestige cars would not be seen dead with "our sort", you know what I mean, screaming ACIS, TVIS, VTEC etc.
A possible way forward would be to have the different specialist suppliers run the meets to help grow sales in these hard times. That’s my take on this idea.
Claire how does it run on octane, have you got a link to a specific forum, I joined there last week and am only getting my way around the site.

Oh yeah, I won't know anyone at the meet, I'll try and park near the other MR2's if I can, but if you see a tall ginger bloke wandering around looking confused say hello! I'll probably be with my girlfriend too

Hey Jeff, This Is the Info:
Following the cancellation of our meeting with the Carrickmines Park Management Team, it is only fair to assume that Carrickmines as a C&C venue is dead in the water!
August 1st--- The first Dublin based C&C in two months will take place at the Spar Store, in the Cherrywood Business Park, located in block D and easy to spot upon enetering the Park.
There is an instore Insomnia Coffee counter, and the usual range of food. This is a first try for this venue, there is plenty of parking, and the area is very quiet on Sunday's. The only way to find out if it is viable is to give it a go.
Very close to the previous venue, take Exit 16 off the M50 and proceed throught the roundabout following the signs for the Park
As usual, 10.30 to 11am start, and no wait as the shop will be open.

ok looks good. I will try to get down there for around 10. Hopefully we can get some car park spots close to each other so we can keep an eye on each others cars etc.

Shall we arrive there ourselves or does anyone wanna meet up and go in Convoy!
I think it'd be pretty Cool arriving into the Car park in "Pack" giving a few blasts from the Exhaust to let them know "We Have Arrived"...... Quandry, Your Job is This:
