MR2OC Christmas Drive - 6th December - all welcome 2 Years, 3 Months ago

Hi everyone
Over at MR2OC we are arranging a Christmas Drive on Sunday 6th December. It was suggested that we hold this somewhere central so that perhaps some of the MR2 Drivers members could join us and make it a joint club effort.
Although the route has not been finalised yet I though I'd post the link up to let you all know about it.

Sorry about the link guys. I had a double http at the start - this forum works differently to the OC so it will take me a while to get used to it. First impressions though ... it is slightly easier to use than the OC. Dont tell them I said that

Are pepole down Dublin/South direction intending to do the same route ? i.e. drive up to Belfast first and then down to Cavan ?
Or are we going to arrange a separate convoy heading from Dublin direction up to Cavan and then meeting up ?

Either option is good. We are talking about meeting up at 1pm in Cavan so it would be an early start to get up to Belfast coming from the South.
I think most people would just be planning to meet up in Cavan. We could possibly go for a short spin from there. What do you think?

open to suggestions smiggy.
Cavan was picked as it is fairly central but it does make it a long drive for those that live north of Belfast or South of Dublin.

Guys
So that we can gauge how many cars are coming can I ask you to post on this thread if you intend to come along on the 6th Dec??
There will be a group of us travelling down from the North in convoy so not sure if you guys will do the same from one or more locations, but for now its just an idea of numbers.
Cheers

I'd like to go, but unfortunately i don't have a 2 on the road right now. Could perhaps come in the Lucida though if you's aren't going to be breaking speed limits

Is the route finalised ? I thought I saw a post of OC talking about around Carlingford ?
If most of the people going are Belfast direction and Dblin direction, then maybe Cavan is a bit far West ? Maybe the Carlingford might suit better ? Just an hour drive for everyone ?
Only thing is that I'm not familiar with the area ? Any good spots around for a drive and some photos ?

Yeah Spidey, Carlingford was a suggestion of mine for exactly the reasons you have stated. Cavan was suggested as a compromise in case there were any members wanting to come from further west, north west or south west.
I don't think there is a massive amount of takers for this so we could revise based on those who have expressed an interest already. Open to suggestions from all.
Everything is kind of weather dependant as well. If there is crappy weather forecast close to the date then it would be tempting to cancel so that my 2 can stay in its nice warm garage ... its sleeping at the minute ssssshhhhhh

So, we'll kee an eye on the people that have signed up and if mostly from the East coast direction, we can go with Carlingford.
Even if the forecast is good, the weather can go all prear-shaped on any given day !!
Okay, so up to date list :
1) Pacman + GWrinkle
2) Mnixon
3) Spidey

So, are we on for Carlingford ?
Just lookin it up - its fairly scenic for some photos and the drive up/down is a mixture of some motorway and some twisties
Also, on the 6th, there is a Food fair and Santa will be there
I've no problem with Cavan but if we're mostly East coast based, Carlingford might be easier ?

I think Carlingford is the best solution all things considered ... especially now that we know Santa will be there
We need to work out a route from the North and where to meet you guys from the South and what to do once we meet up.
Any suggestions for any of the above welcomed.

Looks like i'll be needing that lift with you Kyle if i'm going. The Lucida is giving major problems at the minute so wouldn't want to take it on such a long journey

I've been up and down the road up to Newry loads of times but can't for the life of me remember the garage that is located on that road just past JonesBorough - anyone know what it is ? We could use this as a meeting point - it has enough parking to the side and back and has tea/coffee etc From there, we can go the following route - some nice back roads. Actually, I've never been on the roads - for all I know they could be full of potholes !
Route map
Then, once in Carlingford, few pics and a nice carvery lunch in one of the pubs ?
