Chipped Ireland (Dublin) are offering MR2 Drivers a club dyno night. For anyone that hasn't been to one before, these are great craic ..
Chipped Ireland run an 1800hp Dyno Dynamics 450DS (2wd) system that they use for measuring and tuning performance cars. The dyno night would involve a couple of power runs each where they effectively measure the power that your car is putting down at the wheels (and estimated flywheel power). They also measure torque and AFR to tell you if your car is running lean or rich.
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Dyno Dynamics readouts are comparable across the world and there is nothing like a dyno run for helping you to plan what mods you are going to do to your car or show you what you have achieved with modding your car.
Chipped Ireland will give us a tenner off for each car making it 50eur each if we can get 5 or more cars attending.
We can do this on a weeknight to accommodate those with busy weekends, one idea that comes to mind is Thursday 3rd of September @7pm but that is just an idea.
Reply in this thread if you're interested and also if the day/time suits or you would like to propose something else.

Hmm, dont know if I can get down to Dublin for this and Japfest. Which sucks!
I wish the motorway network in Ireland was half as good as England. It'd only take an hour and half to get down to Dublin instead of the 3 and half it takes now!

Well we haven't got many numbers yet but Spidey is digging up some Supra/Celica guys for a bit of a challenge so I think we will book it for next Thursday anyways. I'll get on to Chipped Ireland and confirm it for starting at 7pm. Should be ok to have a few spectators if anyone wants to meet up there. Here's the address, if you're planning to go, send me a PM with your mobile number so I can keep you up to date.
Location:
Urban Performance, Head Office Business Centre,
Greenhills Road,
Tallaght,
Dublin 24,
Ireland.

I'm might pop up for a few minutes on Thursday to have a look. I had the car on the dyno at Westward a few months ago so it's unlikely that I'll give it another go (I'll save the money for tax!!)

Who says you can't get a set of golf clubs in the boot?

Ok guys only a few days until the dyno night. Just a reminder to check your oil, water and tyre pressure in the next couple of days. They're often overlooked and can hamper the runs on the dyno if things aren't quite right.
p.s. anyone know any Celica or Supra drivers that might like to come along for a grudge match?

If there are only two people confirmed, is it even worth it?
Might be better to hold it at a more suitable date for everyone?

Someone else on here said they were going also. I have the word out on a few other boards so I think we'll get the numbers at the last minute. Happens that way a lot with club events.

PROBLEM
I was on to Mick who runs the dyno there and he didn't realise we're running modified cars Apparently the noise will be too much for the neighbours after 7pm....
He said we could run if people could get there for 5.30pm, but that sounds like a mission impossible to me for a work day...
Looks like we might need to how off until the weekend after Japfest....
Sorry guys..

if this is re-scheduled for a weekend then count me in, but i can't do the weekend after japfest cos i'll be in the west on the mr2oc.co.uk irish drive
one question...is a strong clutch needed for a dyno run? if so then that counts me out

Well a dyno pull is normally done in 3rd or 4th gear, so if you have enough power to overcome your clutch at say 120kph in 4th, then it's not going to work on the dyno...
Other than that, I think dyno's are only the same amount of stress as road driving. Maybe less as you have no wind resistance??

cool, i've not felt the clutch slip at all but i need to let the pedal almost back to it's starting spot before it bites so there's prob not long to go before it starts slipping, but if i can get it to the redline in 2nd then surely there won't be any problems on the dyno?

Clutch pedal might just need adjusting.
Typically you will see failing clutches struggle on a hill, or at high speed. Although sometimes they just go pop when you're reversing in a supermarket

Yep cheers Tony, I'm in the same boat.
I'll have an ask around at Japfest and see what dates are good for everyone.
cheers,
