The first MR2OC drive being organised for 2010 is around the Fermanagh Lakes. It would be great to have a few of you guys join us. Hopefully this doesn't clash with anything you already have planned.
WHAT - Leisurely drive around the lakes of Fermanagh with a stop for some Tea/Coffee, scone and cake
WHERE - the clue is in the name
WHEN - Sunday 7th March
WHY - because we are a civilised bunch of sports car driving hooligans
HOW - copy, paste the list and add your name
This route is the one for us leaving and finishing in Belfast, but it gives you an idea:
SUGGESTED ROUTE CLICKY
We can arrange a suitable meeting place en-route for anybody that this suits.
Planning to attend:
1. MNixon
2. Spidey
3. dshamrock2000
4. RR87 (passenger)
5.

looks like for me the only way to join this event and take photographs would be as a passenger, in case anyone has an open seat it would be nice! Thanks

I wouldn't imagine so tbh, we'd usually travel up early morning and travel back right afterwards. Depending on the meeting time in fermanagh we'd probably be looking at a 8/9am start in dublin, usually we meet at the little chef (metzo) in Blanchardstown for a fry up
There are some meets where we make a weekend out of it, such as the highland drive in scotland this april, the wales drive this july(?) and the ireland drive this september

What do you think about the Wales drive. I get the impression that most people have enough to pay for and get permission for (???) already next year.
Do you think we should postpone the Wales plan for a decent (4 day) trip in 2011, possibly around Easter instead of the Highland Drive?
I have already suggested this on the Reg Reps group board in the OC but I think the scottish members will prefer to keep their annual highland trip.
Let me know what you think either way

if you don't think there's enough interest then yeah hold it over to next year, although it may be a very similar position next year as there'll still be a highland drive and an irish drive more than likely. As it stands I don't think i'll be going on the highland drive so if the wales trip is a runner then i'm almost certainly in
I don't know how much leg work has been done on the wales trip but when you consider that the highland drive and the irish drive both get practically a full years planning maybe it's a bit late now to try and get a decent turn out at it? maybe something for 2011 is the way to go, and it could be something to appeal to mr2 owners from all corners of Uk and Ireland considering that Wales is fairly central

I think everyone is of a similar opinion. Better to make the trip a good one and make it open to as many as possible.
I don't think it takes that long to plan an event but, to be fair to owners and their families, a lot of forward notice is usually easier going on the other half.
There is nothing to stop a few of us heading over for a mini 'recon' type trip. We could do a one or two nighter over a weekend to co-incide with a Welsh meet. This could be arranged at fairly short notice (a few months to allow saving etc), so could happen this June/July. My missus is even happy to go if its only a short(ish) trip - that's a good thing by the way
In terms of 2011, myself and GWrinkle have basically decided that we wont be going on the highland drive. The 2010 trip will be Kyle's 3rd in a row and he is keen to go somewhere else. With that in mind I think an epic 4 day Welsh trip around March-May in 2011 is a definite
I will have a chat with the Welsh reps to see what their plans are around the start of the summer. If I think one of their events is worth the trip then I will post up on both websites.

i'd be fairly 100% for a 2 nighter Uk Recon etc (sound missus), but for 2010 i'd like to see more of a tour of the south,I'm based in naas but id rather venture down south than across to uk till we have a decent few to travel and organise it well etc, then if we have a good contingent coming from the uk I could organise an escort from one of the bike clubs for a donation to their charity etc

Check this out mr2oc.co.uk/forums/269/126461.html
It's mostly guys from scotland and england coming over here, then a few lads from up north and me gonna take in all the east and south coasts over 4 days, I did it last year and it was really good fun

Apart from the duplicates (you know who you are ) we have 11 people in 10 cars coming so far from both the MR2 drivers and MR2OC
I have posted on the OC that I will probably scrap the afternoon tea thing unless people want to do it. I was getting prices around £15 for essentially snacks.
New proposal - picnic or chip shop ... depending on the weather

This drive is 110% on so get the day booked off dude
We will need to arrange a meeting point with you guys. The current route takes us from Belfast round the lakes and then back towards Belfast through Monaghan. I think we should reverse this so that you could meet up with us somewhere in Monaghan town.
One of the members on the OC has suggested a restaurant at the edge of the lake (I think) for Sunday lunch. I need to phone a check details, prices etc, but I will post up on both sites if its a goer. This will of course be optional but I will likely need numbers ahead of time so that a suitable table can be booked.

I have posted the revised route over on the OC. The plan is now to meet up with you guys in Monaghan then head towards Enniskillen for some food followed by the chase round the lakes and along some country roads.
I have brought the route back through Aughnacloy which I thought might be a good place for the southern drivers to head south again and the rest of head home from there.
I think we will prob meet in Monaghan at about 11-11:30am. Just need someone who knows the area to recommend and easy to find meeting spot. Monaghan Shopping Centre (Dawson Street) is one option, bound to have a decent car park
The route is broken down to these sections:
STAGE 1
STAGE 2
STAGE 3
Let me know what you think
