I'm toying with the idea for awhile now, I would want an immaculate one and would proabably part with my mk2 @ the right price, hmm, yeh still thinking it over
no, have not seen that one, looks a good one.
There was one for sale in Bray about three weeks ago on English plates €950
nice pale blue, maybe worth a look if you were thinking of buying one

Looks a clean car - I might be alone here but I even like the ol skool decals on the door, and the wheels make it look WAY more modern
I'd say def think about it if its mint!

No not really. 2 to 3 grand is kinda the going rate for mk1's It is possible to get em cheaper, I saw a white one in Cork going for 1700. Good engine with only 66k but has a LOT of rust. Everywhere unfortuantly

I'd be heppy enough to pay 3 grand for a mint one, Would be looking for at least 5 for my Mk2, Ideally i'd sell my mk2 1st and then be able to shop around, although im not sure i need the hassle at the moment, due its nct in feb so will probably put it through in december and then go sell & look in January

Jeez, the 2's must sell for much more in the south than they do up here. Typically, the tubby prices follow the rev number plus or minus a bit for condition and mods e.g. my rev 3 tubby would sell for about £3k. An NA would be similar or slightly lower. You can get a '97 NA for €1k more on autotrader.ie
Mk1's would sell for about £1k-£1.5k max and you can pick one up for less than £500. The only way you would get £2k plus for a MK1 in the UK is if it had (say) a V6 transplant or something similar.

I cant believe you are talking about selling your car. You have finally lost it man! That is one beauty and in such good condition, I would be sick to see it go.

No just thinking of a MK1, havent fully decided yet but i am looking, wont be buying one until i decide to sell mine because knowing me i'd buy the mk1 with all the best intentions of selling my mk2 and then convincing myself to hold onto both of them

€3k seems a bit dear to me, especially considering the lack of detail they've put in the ad I've wanted a mk1 as a project for a while now but i'm gonna wait til i have the time, space, money and knowledge to do it justice, i've been collecting a few bits for it and all

buy a project car and work on it and then when it's finished, sell the mk2

I like MK1's, I do, but if I was buying one, it would have to be as well as the MK2. The MK 2 is my favourite MK by far. There is no way I would sell my MK2 FOR a MK1, absolutely no disrespect intended to any MK1 owners. Like I said, I do like them, just not as much as the SW20 styling and power.
Dave, if you do go down this road, please don't get rid of your tubby. It's a class machine, one of the nicest examples on here. I am pretty sure that you would regret it down the road, you were sorry when you sold the N/A.

Well time 2 defend the poor mk1 I think
Swagger, I know you like MK1's and that the MK 2 is your favourite. But others might just like the original better. I do, and would sell a MK2 FOR a MK1. I went from a N/A MK2 to the MK1 and could'nt believe the difference. On paper its slower but it feels just as quick if not quicker. Maybe thats just me
Now the MK2 turbo is a different animal altogether
And Spanky, I wanted a MK1 all the time but found them too pricey. Straight up there making silly money (3K-4K) compared to some very resonable MK2's. I know some can be got from 500 but there usually there is more rust than metal on these examples. Heres a few good ones...

Don't be silly, you were not know. We have been friends for about 14 years. We live 5 mins away from each other and I am going out/living with his sister.
Plus I have helped do a few things on the car so I guess I arrogantly think I have a right to my say!

Cheers Red, I'll take you up on that offer, I think Spanky is forgetting about VRT down here, cheapest car i can find up north is near a grand with bodywork required due to rust, add on approx €800 for VRT and then get the body seen to and youre easily at 3 or 4 grand, especially if a respray is needed

haha classic kc+1
Dave if I were you I would consider storing your MK2 while you get to know the MK1. Your MK2 has a lot of expensive options on it and would be hard to replicate if you ever wanted to get another one like it in the future.

HEY
The VRT is an issue but you can still pick up a decent MK1 for £1k or less. There is a guy in the MK1 owners club (navy blue one - pic below - red knows him) who paid £850 for his (from England) and it was in perfect condition inside and out. Even with the (illegal) VRT this would still be half the price.

Just my 2c[/quote]
Couldn't agree more. It's a special machine IMO and would be almost impossible to replace.
@REDMK1..you sure talk big! But seriously, how on earth you can claim 91Bhp as a real mans car is....mad. Maybe bang a zero on the end!
