Hi all here are a few pictures of my MR2 with the crystal clear lenses which i fitted yesterday, they are USA spec ones, so i had to modify them to take the parking light as they only came with the hole for the indicator in them. I have now taken off the toblerones ( wing rub strips ) and have taken out the orange indicator lenses & blanked off the gap with a plastic plate that i cut out of celica sideskirts that i had lying around. I shaped it into the Toblerones & bonded it to them, I am in the process of painting them, Got clear repeaters for the wings also, have to cut out holes in wings (aaagh) for them to fit. will post pictures when i have them fitted.

Cheers Guys. Yeah Steve, the Blanking strips i made up took me a while, i had to cut & shape them out of the original sideskirts that i had left over from the 99 Celica i used to have. I have them primed now, ill take a picture of them before and after i paint them white & again when i fit them. They look pretty good already. Next i have to cut a hole in both wings for the crystal side repeaters i got. They are for a 96 - 00 civic, got them in Planet Auto in Newbridge off Gavin. €20 which wasn't too bad. I made up a template out of plastic for fitting them in so its just a matter of outlining the template onto each wing, shouldn't be too difficult!

Hi all, Here are the final photos of the rub strips fitted & the clear repeaters fitted into wings today. I extended the original indicator wiring to reach. Turned out well. Im happy enough with result.
Cheers Slipsliderg, yeah after i cut out the holes in the wing and filed the edges smooth i painted the edges white & let them dry before i fitted the clear repeaters. Very time consuming job but worth every minute of it
Cheers Dave & Spidey. Im happy with the way it turned out alright Dave. Does look modern, The only thing im still not sure of is the carbon fibre bonnet. I just cant get used to the black bonnet. Might sell it and stick the Original white toyota one back on. Spidey are you on about putting the led strips into the front lenses like Swagger did? I have a set of these LED strips that i got in Halfords last year but never fitted. I would love to put them into the new clear lenses but im afraid i would break them trying to seperate them.

Yeah, I've the same as Swagger.
They won't break, as you soften them in the oven first. So, although they might not break, you could melt them !
It sounds like a lot of hassle but its not as bad as it sounds - as with everything take your time
Believe it or not i tried to seperate them to do this mod when i got them using a heat gun but to no avail. I suppose putting them in the oven would work but im afraid ill melt them out of shape or something
I agree with Dave, we are the only country I have ever seen that put the year on the reg. Serves no purpose other than to create reg snobbery. A55holes!
I think the CF looks much more at home now, but it's up to you man.
As for the LED's in the front lenses. Forget a heat gun, as you need to heat the entire unit right through and all at the same time. A heat gun will never get uniform heat all the way around and right through.
Oven, 100 degress, approx 10-15 mins. I broke out the tabs, not needed as the glue holds so damn hard, much harder than I expected. Heat the lights until they are so hot, you can not hold them without a t-cloth, but do not melt them.
The lense should work off now if you carefully prise it off all the way around. BE careful not to pull too hard on any off the edges as you could smash/break off a corner of the lense part. Nice and easy, if it stiffs up, back in the oven for another couple of mins, work slow and careful.
Repeat process to refit the lenses, once the LED's are in.
Cheers Steve. I might try fit the LED lights another day. Back to work Monday after 2 weeks off so i dont know when ill get around to doing it. Hows your machine running?
All good thanks buddy. One or two things need doing, PS pump is leaking, exhaust gasket is blowing. I'm totally preoccupied with my RC truck at the moment though and dropped a a few quid on that too. Gotta just chill on the spending for a bit!
BTW way, the lights should just take a few hours on an evening or Saturday or something.
Is a PS pump dear for the MR2 or will ya pick one up 2nd hand? What kind of RC Truck have you? I have had a few over the years, i had one with a 28cc petrol engine, Think it was called an FG Buggy or something like that, it went like stink. Ill probably do the lights soon alright.
