Turbo brake upgrades 2 Years ago Karma: 8
Hi, Just got myself a mk2 Rev 5 Turbo and am looking to get it ready for a track day coming up. Plan is for braided lines, sporty pads and better fluid.

Has anyone got any recommendations? Where do you all source your parts?

Hi Turlock,

I think there is another couple of chaps on here that track their 2's but they are a little quiet, hopefully we will see some good discussions around setup etc if you start a few threads...

I can't speak for track but for road... for fluids I use Halfords, TRD and performance parts I order from TB Developments or Fensport (both in the UK), some people recommend Camskill in the UK also for MR2 suspension/engine parts. There's also some specialist tuning shops around like Courture Auto and TDP. I recently had my some work done at TDP and they produced a good result with a lot of attention to detail so I would recommend them (www.tdp.ie).

Anyway welcome to the site. What colour is your MR2?

try www.ebcbrakes.com/

from what I've heard their "redstuff" pads are the best track pad for the mr2, they also stock uprated discs

I got goodridge hoses put on my rev 5 turbo, at last service, they make such a difference.
I also changed the brake fluid and put on some blue pads that were recommended by momentum.

For track use i think you would need a lot better pads, all the track people recommend carbontech
www.ctbrakes.com/pads/toyota.html
Rogue stock them, i remember pricing them before they are expensive.

Your gonna have a ball with a tubby on the track! Prob the most fun ive had on any track day! I wouldnt be too worried about discs (as long as they're in good nic ) but pads id go with green or red stuff! Red stuff produce less dust thus keep your alloys sparkley! Stay away from yellowstuff pads! I use dot 4 ferodo brake fluid. Got loadsa brake bits from Camskill and they delivered brake pads, disks, lube, fluid in 2 days over a bank hoiday weekend! Oh yeah make sure you do your cool off lap and when your in the paddock or pit leave your handbrake off after a quick run! The rear disks get hot.
Enjoy!!!

Only saw your post now and I've already been onto fensport this morning who recommended yellow stuff to me, said the red wouldn't be great on road due to taking a while to warm up.

I'll give them a go and see how I get on, are they bad or what's the issue with them?

So braided lines, new pads front and rear and 5.1 fluid should have me all set for Saturday week

Oh no they're a great pad but do squeel on my mates car when cold and if your like me a squeek or sqeel will annoy you beyond reason. For the extra cost i'd have redstuff which i think (its only an opinion) do the same job for the money BUT yellow stuff will last longer so i suppose on those terms they will be of similar value over their life! It as a money matter in my eyes but after some solid research just now i found out they last longer so disregard and enjoy! Who is the track day with? Presuming Mondello??

Well after reading up on the yellow stuff i'd have to go for them cos they apparantly last longer! I'm gonna switch my standard pads out before track day season as ive got cheapy pads on for the winter and they dust up and ruin my wheels! i know i've completely flipped on my original opinion of em!

SteveH i've got cheapy disks on mine and they work just as good imo! mine are "branded" (Blue print) but are still a non oem part! same as standard size and vented!

Free tip of the day!!! Don't forget to put thread lock on your retaining bolts and torque them up properly! I forgot and the calliper fell loose under braking!

Ebay + cheapy = safety component?

Something about that equation does not add up

Right had my day out on Saturday, my disks were standard (vented) and in good enough nick so not really any lip and generally felt smooth so didn't bother replacing them.

I went for a Fensport recommendation of yellow stuff pads up front, black diamond pads on the rear, braided lines all round and fluid change to DOT 5.1 fluid.

I was out on track for most of the day, taking very little breaks so I could make the most of my time on track. My brakes performed flawlessly throughout the day and I was going pretty hard for long stints (from 40mins to an hour).

Cost was about £240 delivered, only thing I'd change is to get 2 litres of 5.1 fluid instead of just the one. You'll change the fluid when you do the lines but you really need to bleed the lines again after a bit more driving...
