I don't know if there is a market for this so I would like to know if there would be anybody wanting a detachable towbar for their SW20/MkII ? How much would you be willing to pay ?

When not in use you simply remove two bolts and the part that would normally be sticking out is removed. Keeping the sporty look of your MR2. If you only have the one car it could be handy for towing a trailer for larger items like furniture, dustbins, building materials or even towing a caravan.

i was actually thinkin bout putting a towbar on the mr, going on a road trip to spain next month in the car and really wanted to take my buggy with me as there some really cool offroad tracks around where im going, havnt decided yet but having a trailer wud limit the car to 60 which is a big no no on the french motorways!

Yes I can see the funny side but that is why it is a detachable towbar. Don't be under any delusions, the MR2 is not an exotic sports car like a Lamborghini. This towbar makes the MR2 a little bit more practicle eg. I borrowed my fathers' trailer to transport my mig welder which is quite large. I would love to see you try and stick that in your boot

only thing to be wary of is that towbars have to E-certified blah blah, so just remove it when NCT is coming. i have seen a porsche towing a boat before so who knows?!

Yeah I think id just borrow my mates van or use the girlfriends car.

toyota supplied them for the mr2 from new as an optional extra had one on my previous car

I would not have a price for one because looking through the posts I didn't think it went down too well.

One thing that would be real handy having a towbar for, would be to carry bikes on a rack that attaches to the ball hitch itself. It wouldn't be too heavy a load on the car, wouldn't restrict the French speed limits either.

I suppose I'm a bit odd in that I have an A4 estate as a daily driver, but that was in getting its 180,000 mile timing belt change and I would have liked to have been able to carry my bike to Ballyhoura for a cycle while the A4 was in the garage..

Exactly Cathal, this towbar is there to help you out and when it's not needed it it is detachable.

I don't expect to use mine often, especially now my wife now has a Golf TDI, but I know I have that option.
