How's the cars coming along? You bringing the carbon tubby and some celica?

Just have to throw the new Yellowstuff pads into the fronts, there's only enough on the old ones for a half day so I may as well change them at home as at mondello. Looking forward to it now!

Yeah taking 2 cars ... Between a few of us we will have 2 celicas .. 1 mr2 and another one on stand by ... a fiat coupe ... and an rx8 ... and hopefully enough tools to do any basic job ... We could change the pads up there ..

Yeah the carbon Tubby is starting and running ... Breaks all reconditioned ... Fully serviced ... etc ... Just need to adjust the timing and run in the engine a little ...

The celica is coming along nice ... Front suspension is creaking and groaning but its all there ... Needs a quick service and a set of front pads and off we go .. Some more graphics ...Here is a pic of her

Well it seams as if my track mr2 will not be ready yet again ....
But there is still a week

However I do have another one so I will be taking her ...

Front pads changed, tank filled and tyres pumped....ready for action!

I took her out a few minutes ago to bed in the front pads and as soon as I got onto the main road the sky turned black....don't think I've ever driven in rain that heavy before! Waste of time washing her earlier!

Hope it's dry for at least some of the day tomorrow.

The car ran brilliantly for something that didn't get any real look over apart from a good tyre kick ... deffo need to change clutch fluid ... and service it .... god k ows when that was done last

Iam in talks with the bro about maybe putting a track car together over the winter. So fingers crossed ill have one for next season

Good to see japohara's turbo out there and that it went so well with no real issues. I know what a handful my NA can be to keep the nose pointing the right direction, especially on a damp track, I'd say the tubby is nerve wrecking to say the least!

Anyway, my car ran perfectly again. I had only changed the front pads to EBC Yellowstuff the night before so had terrible brakes for the first two sessions out. After that she stopped very well, but I still think the project mu pads were better. And the dust from the ebc's is crazy, they would destroy a nice sets of wheels.

So my best laptime was 2.17, on circa 10 year old road tyres that refuse to wear down. And that's basically my limit I think, I must have spun her 5 times yesterday...grinning ear to ear though!

Slipsliderg's car features but he was in the passenger seat I think. I did follow him at a different point and had some fun till I tried to kick out the rear on turn 4 to impress my passenger and ended up facing the other way.

Sorry for not spending more time with you all. Was getting my fix of laps for most of the day like a veteran meth head.

Good lap times as well Tsporter, certainly I had a hard time keeping up and catching you guys. I did turn the screw up a bit when you starting following me though If you have a full set of yellow I can swap them with you for the full set of Greenstuff pads I got. I believe they are less prone to dust. I didn't get to meet Japohara on track at all but he was enjoying the MR2 for all it could give, fair play. Especially entertaining in the wet when looking up the main straight.

I was sharing my car with one of the lads from work and my Dad came down for a few laps as well. Didn't manage to get Rupolph out as the engine mounts had collapsed following the last outing despite the best efforts of got92tubby I just could not get the replacement front and rears to line up with the mounting holes. So had to take the Boss woman's car out running on the Toyo road tyres and other sum such ones. That was all grand in the dry but when it rains the tonka inspired rear tyres were lighting up more due to the level of plastic imbued in them than the bootful of torque. So back to the Toyos for the wet and some controllable sliding for shits and giggles. The MR2 is a perfect fun car for the wet with adequate tyres, really provided great smiles per mile.

Got92tubby came out for a few laps in the passo seat hope he enjoyed it. Mondello is the N/A's natural environment and I think it impressed him. I was well happy with its performance on the day considering it hasn't seen a bit of tarmac in at least eight months.

Anyway my workmate has asked to take joint ownership in the MR2 and I have agreed as splitting the cost and having people to share the experiences and work with makes it all the more enjoyable. So plenty more track-time to come and money to be invested in getting the track hack quicker.

We completed 217Kms and used 55 litres of juice i.e. 3.045 kms per litre or 8.6 MPG, Gulp!

To give you all an idea of the times out there my dad had timed some laps.

Ferrari in the full wet 2:17
MR2 in the dry 2:17
Lotus Exige in the dry 2:06 (or close enough)
Godzilla in the wet 2:15
Godzilla in the dry 2:08
Lotus racing car 1:52 (holy funk)

This may or may not be the best laps achieved by the cars but what was taken at different points in the day. I have no videos or photos.

Totally Epic day ... Best fun I have had in a long long time ..

Pre Track day check consisted of kicking a tyre and visiting Spla300 for some good secondhand rear tyres ... Unfortunatly the widest he had was 205/50 R15 ... so off we went with them .. We did think about changing the Brake pads and giving the car a full check over and maybe an oil change or plugs but A friend of mine had his Fiat coupe in the garage till nearly 2 in the morning ... Wiring issues ,bolt checks and Graphics took priority ... After all its a Toyota what could go wrong ...

She was a handful to say the least and in the wet ... Well lets just say a little bit of poo may have come out ... The tyres were breaking away in the dry nevermind the wet .. Plenty of sideways .. Only problem I had with the car was I did boil the clutch fluid 2 or 3 times and lost the clutch pedal till she cooled down ...

After I took a Bravery/Stupidity Pill Myself and Got92tubby took to the track and had a blast putting in some 2.18s ... I just couldnt get the s bend right at all ... Missed the apex every time and ended up scrubbing off far to much speed ... Then Got93tubby attached himself to the drivers seat and off we went again ... and we tortured the tyres some more ...

Hand on heart I enjoyed every second of it and would recommend it to anyone ... The MR2 was built for it .. It is the right thing to do with it ... She drove up ... Got Tortured ... Drove home .. and she loved it ... Anyway loads of phots can be found at www.peespeed.com ..

Great day with out any dramas which is always nice to see every one going home with there car running as well as when they arrived. I just love the how Tsporter and Japohara can drive there and i think most people would need to go and watch to see how hard these guys push these cars and then just drive it out the gate and home. Just f**kin brilliant cars to take it all day long.

Ray I think you were trying to scare me but you have it all to well in hand even at the blinding speed you were doing through those corners your experience really shows. Yea I agree I think for how little straight there is that the smoother power out of the corner for the NA makes it really tidy out of the corners at its lap times would be hard to beat. That said the Turbo being a little more unpredictable and getting all out of shape at times can really bring a smile to your face

Moral of the story you couldn't but enjoy being in/driving/watching these wonderful little cars giving there all. Class day out hope to do it again soon(if you guys don't get fed up hauling my ass around) will try and get something together in the winter when i have some time and then try and play catch up

Not trying to scare, just get you addicted to the little track bug. That's what happened to my mate from work. Get stuck in a buy one for the track well worth it.

Think the final selling point on a track car for me was watching froggy it showed me that us halfwiths can have fun too all over the place and absolutely loving it. That along with the the crac to be had with people you have never claped eyes on before . when out with jap we were following the fto and it was good fun and as soon as we got back to the pits he was straight over grining from ear to ear for a chat. Class.
