How's everybody keeping with the lockdown?
I started back at work this week. I haven't been able to do anything with my MR2 because it's kept at my parents house. So I'm unable to visit as they are elderly.

Hey Marty,
I'm keeping alright, didn't get sick fortunately.
All I had in the past good few weeks is time and luckily I was able spend many days for my 2.
I've done everything I could think of which will be a pic heavy topic when I post it up.
Cheers

Hi All,
haven't posted much here since i joined but i've nearly got all the jobs sorted on my rev3 gts at this stage (been working from home during this lockdown so have had less time to work on it)
Last job is to get a respray which should be going ahead this weekend, all going well

Glad to see some of us are still visiting the site and keeping well.
I finally pulled the trigger and now I am having my Laminova air/water intercooler designed. The intercooler is actually being developed at where I work. It will have five (roughly 600 bhp) laminova cores which will easily handle the power of my MR2. I am expecting it to produce between 400-450 bhp.

how does the size of this system compare to the oem?
how did you decide to use this system? Price/performance?
just interested in the pros/cons. I am keeping my engine setup as close to standard as possible at the moment but always good to know what alternatives are available

It's still in the design stage, but I know it will be longer. It's going in the boot so I don't need to worry about space.
If you look up Laminova intercoolers you will see that they are very efficient at heat transfer, more so than regular air/water intercoolers.
I'm not sure what the final cost is going to be, but it will be quite a bit more than a regular aftermarket intercooler for the MR2 Turbo.

Hey everyone, good to see site still running.
During lock down got around to clean up my 2 after another year of storage.
You can't really buy that priceless smell of old mr2 interior...
Filled her up with fresh juice, started first turn and took for spin on backroads.
Ticks over like clock and everything works as it should.
Apart from driver side door, wont unlock.
Any suggestions on solution?

The door won't unlock with key, key fob remote or both?

No fob, when using key it feels that lock is stuck, even from inside unlock switch is in lock position. Passenger door works no problem. Central lock definitely works as I can see that drivers door switch wants to open, but seems to be forced to stay closed.

It sounds like the whole door lock mechanism is stiffened up.
I would take the carpet off and wash down the lock with WD40 (I hate that stuff) or some penetrating oil while operating it at the same time. You could also spray from the lock side.
All the oil flowing down into the doors bottom will provide corrosion protection so you shouldn't worry about that. I sprayed waxoil in my, but that's another topic.
Once washed down, I would spray some grease on it. You can get them in a can.
I used lithium spray grease on mine many years ago as preventative maintenance. Looks silly as its white, but no one sees it.
Still works perfect and the grease is still more less covering it.
Before you start washing it off, there is a little 3-wire sliding switch mounted on it responsible for detecting which way you turn the key. You might want to take it off when flushing the lock.
While there, you can lubricate the whole window regulator as preventative maintenance.
Also, just a tip: The rods connecting the handles to the lock are adjustable if you want better feel (less backlash on the handle) when opening the door.
Hope it helps
Cheers

HI everyone,
Its been a long time since I posted here . Been popping in every now and then though and glad to see the sites still up.
Dragged my car out of purgatory (back laneway) where it lived for 6 years and doing a resto on it now in the driveway. Its been laying up for going on 9 years total now and followed me with house moves yadda yadda. Engine etc came out with a bit of persuasion and front suspension all done with new bushes with meister r's going in all round. Gearbox will be sent to Elm hall for a check, new clutch, TB kit and other essentials in progress.

I'm learning to TIG weld aluminium, but struggling. I need to study more videos on YouTube.
Should I master it I will make a few things for my MR2.

Great to see everyone using the lockdown time to do bits and pieces to their cars.
I'm making extremely slow progress on my own with engine and gearbox removed along with most other parts.
If anyone has any recommendations on someone reliable to do a full refresh of the engine (General check as well as all new gaskets, seals, rings etc) please let me know

Hi lads and ladies, I hope everyone is well. It's hard to believe we are still in lockdown a year now. I haven't been on in ages as I forgot my password but I'm back now and looking forward to reading through all the old threads. I still have my red mk1 and still drive it most days to get out within our 5k. Kids wave at me thinking it's a Ferrari ha ha sure so do I

Hi TurboD.
How about posting some photos of your MR2. Have you done anything with it recently?
