Help and advice 8 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 35
Hi guys,

Its been a while!! My younger brother was diagnoised with cancer late last year and has been going throught the usual chemo and ops. Looks like he is on the road to recovery. As he recently turned 19 I wad hoping as a way to cheer him up etc. to give him my mr2. its pretty nice white mr2 but it has been having what most people think is a differential issue.

As such I am struggling to get this sorted as i dont have a place to work on the car, not sure if its actually the TRD diff or not and the cost of getting it fixed (new diff/replacement gearbox) plus insured for the first year seems like a monumental task.

If anyone can give advicE on getting thr car sortrd id be extremely grateful.

Sorry for the long ramble...

Thanks
Baz

Glad to hear your bro is on the mend. Where is the car Baz, if you got elmhall gearbox to take the diff out, I will get my dad to set it up for road use assuming it is OK. I will collect the car in Cork for you but it might be a while before I can get down. Do you want me to see if my Dad has somebody down there that could do the job for you, someone with proper experience.

I have a gearbox here also if you want to just put a standard one in it. You could get your box fixed up and sell it on if needs be.

It's good to hear that your brother is recovering from this deadly illness. My mother had it in a lung and had it removed, but I had three friends who was not as lucky.

It's good of you to give him your MR2.

Like slipsliderg has mentioned, you don't have to have a diff, although it does help the MR2's handling.

Thanks guys...hopefully everything keeps going smoothly!

On the car it currently has the TRD diff but people thing it might be one side is worn as she tends to twitch (weight transfer left to right) on left hand turns...

I suppose my fear is its not the gearbox and I'll have spent a fortune putting one in and out

Some one here must know some body in cork who races and they in turn I'm sure will know who to see to get you sorted. Or maybe try chatting with some of the drift guy down your end of the country they seam to be winning quite a bit so they must have a good idea on wonky diffs etc I'm sure they reck them on a regular bases. After that if you need a box slip has one I have one if you can get to the bottom of the problem parts won't be an issue. I have even seen rebuild kits for your diff if you wanted to hold on to it.

John Moynihan Rallying, might be able to do something for you on it, they are in Millstreet. Still a good trek away from you though.

I will see what I can get apart from that, tonight.
