Why is it we are talking about a detachable towbar, and not a ordinary towbar that sticks out all the time even when not needed. The reason is because we like the look of the car and want to hide the ugly towbar. Suggesting that we get a jeep just because we might need to tow a trailer a few times a year is just crazy. Would you buy yourself a wheel chair just because you could not be bothered to walk around a supermarket ?

Some of us have a real fondness for the MR2 and love the fact that it is a sports car, but we cannot afford another vehicle just for a few days of the year. Seriously would you buy a jeep and then pay for tax, insurance, fuel and NCT just to use it for a few days of the year ?

Regarding modding or keeping the MR2 factory standard is up to each individual. I personally think the factory SW20 is a good car, but can be improved. Whether it's small cosmetic or big power mods, why should we not mod ? We are all different and we do a lot of things differently so why not use the sports car for towing a trailer if you cannot afford a jeep ?

I'm sure all of you have changed/modded where you live somehow. "Oh that's terrible you have destroyed your house by installing a shelf".

Greg enjoy your standard MR2 that's fine with me, but don't judge others because they need to make their MR2 to be a bit more practical.

To be honest Andy after the slagging this got I didn't think about it since. If I change my mind I'll post a photo, but you would be better searching the internet if you need one soon.

Shame as I thought it was a good idea, not half as daft as some of the 'modifications' I've seen on MR2's. Like yourself I use the MR2 as a daily driver and can not afford a second car. While I've no real need for a towbar at the moment I could definately see how it would be useful. Hope you decide to persue the project again some day.
