My sub is missing from the compartment behind the passenger seat, but I noticed a few extra wires in there! Should it have an amp as well?
Anyone got one? Dont mind not having a radio, but when your stuck in traffic!!! Thanks

I think it depends on whether or not the car came with a 'Premium' sound system from Toyota.

I may be corrected on this, but I believe that the rear subs were not standard on all MR2's.

If the wiring is already there though it will be a plug and play job.

You'll pick up a rear sub box on here cheaply.
I recommend you upgrade the speakers to more modern ones once you get the sub box.

I used this one from Maplins as a plug and play replacement and the quality of sound is better than OEM.

The Toyota sub also had its own built in amp.

I've only seen the factory fitted rear subs on the Rev1 and Rev2 versions
They took all of the nice stuff out of the rev3+ version ... steering fogs, premium sounds, cruise control ... and one of the nicest thing about the older cars ... black headlining ... tight ass Toyota!!

Ah ha! So now I need a powered sub and two speakers, the two tweeters are still present, and I just noticed another two behind both seats,! Alot of sound system for a small cabin, defo have to sort it now!!

As far as I know they came standard in the glimited. And the gt for turbo ones I can take a pic of it with wiring in my g-limited if it's any good to you and the amp is built in the rectangle box

I've repaired most of the speakers in my Rev 1 MR2. I have a thread in the 'Photography' section that shows what I did if you are interested.

If I recall correctly the sub is basically just a plastic box with a speaker.
The amplifier is located in the rear doorcard beside it.
I have a spare Rev1 MR2 ampifier here if you want it.
