I'll start with a few
I hate when very able bodied people park in handicapped spots - to save themselves walking an extra 10 metres - inconsiderate scum
Another - why do people go to walk out of a shop and then stall and just stop and stand in the doorway and block people, while they figure out what they want to do next ?
In our kitchen in work - people make their tea/coffee and stand at the counter chatting, blocking other people !
Lazy/cheeky f*****s crossing the road in front of you at 0.000004 kph - i am going to get an air horn and scare the s**t out of them the next time they do it

I'm with you Spidey on the random stopping in shop door ways. I was thinking of getting brake lights fitted on my wife!
Another thing that get to me is people blocking the entrance to a filling station while they decide what pump they're going to

And another - in Tesco when queueing up and someone up the top of the queue finishes and people leave a gap in front of them and don't move up. So, the queue is going so far back, its backing the aisles
I thought it was called "common sense" because everyone had it - apparently not !

They should put in peopleway(motorway)lanes on busy streets so that people in a rush to work or for any other reason could take the fast lane while people who want to stop and look at shop windows could take the hard shoulder.

Ever since I met my wife im late for Everything that we have to go to together, whereas if im heading somewhere with one of the kids I can be up, fed, dressed and out the door withing the hour, A weeks notice of an event on at 2pm and we'll still be late by 10 mins!
People at checkouts paying splitting out their shopping in two and paying twice, people with no kids parking in family spaces, my wife had a go at a man last week and he got all angry saying that his wife was pregnant and was entitled to park there, what a spastic.
Buying a PS3 game and having to wait for the patch to download or update before I can play the game
Trying to buy a coffee and getting asked a million questions, white, milk or cream, cappuchino, latte? Frappachino, No just a white fucking coffee please! No i dont want a card to stamp ten times for a free coffee!

Moving to the fast lane of the motorway to overtake only to have a tool doing 80km/h pull out infront of you and take all day to overtake another car (and on occasion stay in the fast lane!)

Speaking as someone with no kids, I have wondered what these spaces are all about. Why does having a child entitle someone to a place closer to the shops. To put it a different way, why should I walk further than someone with kids. While I wouldn't park in a disabled spot, I would have no worries about parking in a parent child space. No badge...no rights!
To carry on the driving theme, I do find myself getting angry at people who don't indicate especially when changing lane our joining the motorway.

Spanky - i get what you are saying.
I suppose the way i see it is that for Handicapped spaces, they need more room etc. Also, being near may help people with disabilities.
When you have kids and trying to get them in and out of the car, it is very hard work in tight "normal" spaces.
I really do appreciate the bigger family spaces. But, the need to have said spaces nearest etc isn't so bad. Having said that, it can be hard work to keep a few kids safe in car parks if the family spaces are far away.
A parent has it harder than a fit young man like yourself. So, its a common courtesy to those that have more difficulties then you do (be the difficulty a handicap, or trying to get kids in/out etc). Or to rephrase - handicapped people have it harder much harder than you - parents have it (sometimes) a bit harder than you.
So, i'd say that families do deserve those spaces. #
Not having a go at you, Spanky - just trying to give you a perspective from the other side
All i will say is - when Mrs Spanky tells you she wants kids, revisit this thread

Oh waiting for Spanky to get slapped on that one But I think its cause the little bundles of "joy" like to run around and be a right pain in the arse so closer to the door = less liklyhood of a hospital visit due to oncoming cars
I second your indicator rant reminds me of Shoot-em up where Smith (Clive Owne) runs the guy off the road

The reason there are parent spaces is to make it easier for you to spend money in their shop, it not out of concern for children.

People who don't know how to use a 3 lane motorway.
People who treat the auxiliary lanes on the m50 as slip roads. For some reason they just have to get into the next lane the instant they join the motorway, when they have a good 3 or 4 miles to find a safe time to change lanes.
People who stand at the till organising their notes, coins, receipts, credit cards, keys etc. before they'll step aside for the next person to be served.
People with buggies who think they automatically have priority or right of way and have no perception of the size of the buggy so they'll hit it against your legs over and over when you're in a slow moving crowd.
People who don't acknowledge when you hold a door open for them.
The greedy pricks that have ruined this country, that are never going to brought to justice, that have left every man, woman and child of this country with about €50,000 of debt each, that have taken early retirement rather than do a single ounce of work to get us out of the mess they created, that are having their retirement paid for by the people they screwed over and are getting more money in one year than a minimum wage worker earns in 10 years.

My youngest is 5 years old now so we've grown out of buggies/car seats etc. Therefore I don't park in the kiddy spaces, however it does annoy me when I see people with two practical fully grown teenagers pulling in to those spots. Really they're for people that are having to carry around a load of baby stuff with them, from experience I can tell you that there are times when that can be pretty hard going.
next topic and my favourite rants
car insurance - availability/price etc. We're fleeced in this country it's run as a cartel.
motor tax - the banded rates based on green initiatives should be thrown away, it's proven that the final c02 output of a car is only a minor aspect of the manufacturing/shipping polution and 'encouraging' people to buy a new car every couple of years is actually worse for the climate. So yesterdays 'fun' cars are now stupidly expensive to tax despite being lower emmissions than the reems and reems of mindnumbing shopping waggons and poser 'green' cars that get pumped out of the factories causing real emmissions.
VRT - Anyone wonder why the GT86 is not up on Toyota Ireland's website yet? one possibility is that it won't be for sale in Ireland as it will be too expensive to even seel when it becomes available. That's why they stopped selling the RX8 and I think WRX's are only available on special order from the dealer?
all are... Ridiculous!

So many responses ... didn't see that coming

Not necessarily the case. You can get a 'blue badge' for various different things. one funny story was a friend of a friend (cant rem who but doesn't matter), who challenged a guy who parked in a disabled spot at a gym. The guy turned round to him, lifted his trouser leg and tapped on an artificial limb. Probably accompanied with some choice words no doubt, but it is possible for a 'disabled' person to be more mobile than an 'able bodied' person.

by that rationale they should also have obese spaces, maybe large 4x4 spaces etc.
I think Harper answered it best with his comment above, but I would still park in a family space without any guilt. Normally, in Sainsbury's car park, I park away from the crowds and sometimes across two spaces which is kind of the same thing
dshamrock2000 wrote:

For the reason just mentioned (parking on 2 spaces) I find kids and adults equally likely to do this ... with child locks fitted then there is no chance of the kid doing it.
mnixon wrote:

I agree with all said there, although the last comment about the greedy pricks is a substantially large group of people (both north and south of the border). A lot of people got carried away with rising house prices and cheap loans/cards etc. I think the real pricks are the ones we elect to run our countries, but we are all kind of responsible for that.

That just reminded me of a story. I was in a multi story car park on a very busy day and got lucky with a parking spot on the ground floor near the door. There was only one disabled spot left available and a modified celica came around the corner, went past the spot and started to reverse into it. Then another car comes around the corner, blaring the horn and pulls into the spot before the guy in the celica gets a chance. The girl in the other car rolls down her window and starts roaring abuse and waving around her disability badge. Then the guy in the celica held up his own disability badge, gave her the finger and drove off. Words can't describe how mortified the girl in the other car looked!

Don't have time to do quotes etc !
Agree with you completely, Spanky, on the allocation of the handicapped stickers/cards - it has its flaws. However, i was addressing the legitimately handicapped / not as mobile people.
And i agree with you and Quandry on the teenagers - absolutely no need for parents with bigger kids to take the family spaces.
And on spaces for Obese people, 4x4 owners - i was not questioning if we should have spaces for 4x4 owners, Obese folk - but very good question you have raised. A Handicap is something that we do not choose. We usually but not always do choose to have kids, we definitely do make a choice when we buy 4x4s. Obese folk - won't go into it but if its an addiction, emotional/physical issue, then i'd say they didn't really choose it.
So, based on that, you could say that families don't deserve bigger spaces, as they choose to get jiggy with it and so, they take on the responsibility to deal with it.
What i was saying was that the Family spaces are already there - so, my point was about whether able people should take them over families. My question would be - you view handicapped (most of them) as more needy and so, you don't take their spaces ?
I would generally give to the more needy e.g. pregnant woman etc. Trains don't all have elderly/pregnant seats but people do get up and give their seats.
So, do you view parents with families as more needy ? or they chose to have kids, so deal with it ?
Not arguing with you Spanky just curious as to your view.

I don't think I said anything about people deserving anything, just that I would feel no guilt about parking in a spot with a pic of a parent and child on it. These spaces are a marketing plot by the store to get you there with your kids so you buy more or simply come in the first place, don't mistake this for thinking they care about you or your kids.
with the obvious exception of rape and similar, having a child is always a persons choice ... sometimes not a conscious one, perhaps more a result of a lapse in judgement but a decision made when options were available. Not judging, statingfact.
One more thing to add to the list, welfare cheats/work dodgers etc. no issue with anyone who genuinely needs help getting it but detest people who choose not to work and live on benefits due to laziness or similar.

What gets on my goat:
1.) When I drive my big diesel 3.0 litre turbo in the outside lane with my right indicator on you need to be in the inside lane and I will be in there as soon as you let me pass.
But funk you very much if after I pass you, you then pull back out when there is no reason to be there, bloodly mouth breathers.
2.) People who park wherever they want at small garages, instead of considering other people before deciding where to park, bloodly mouth breathers.
3.) The bloodly labour party, bunch of useless twats who would be best served sitting in the basement of liberty hall as I topple it into the Liffey and it could be powered out to sea with all the hot air they blow out their holes, bloodly mouth breathers.
4.) There is more, but I am now to angry after typing that lefty party name above.
Spanky wrote:

Another choice would be to not to put them in harms way whenever the chance is given to you. Should somebody remove that choice from me I will take action as I see fit to afford my clan the chance to fulfill their destiny.
Last Sunday we stopped to shop with the 7 of us on the way back from my mothers. Having one teenager, a 8 & 9 year old getting out of a car, in a car park, with two toddlers is an exercise in military finesse.
This is something we are all well practiced at, however on Sunday mini me slip thru the defence, ran straight out from behind our car into the path of oncoming traffic. Nobody’s fault, he put the head down and went for it (sound familiar at all). Nothing was coming thank funk.
We were parked in the family spot and thankful for the extra room, because the chance of this happening increases in a log scale depending on the width available (reads as, holding area) between the cars. I am thankful for these spots as it reduces the risk to our kids significantly, well from a extreme risk to medium.

Bar getting a multi leash choke chain, I can't do much else to protect them except what some may consider intelligent car park design. Spanky I hope this might be something to consider the next time you want to park close to the front door, and you know well this is no where near a critic of your parking choice (bloodly turbo owners :woohoo: ). Just giving you the view from another perspective.
Oh and I want a 4 x 4 parking bay for my missus just inside the front door of all the shops she may choose to use at anytime  save me a fortune in body repairs, that I could then use on my MR2.

Rant? Oh goodie! On cars? Boy, oh, boy! I'm fromthe land of the automobile, so I'm just going to get my fuck on...
To the Obama cash for clunkers program, FUCK YOU. This is America god dammit, we invented the automobile and we don't need you taking our glory away from us. Those vehicles are one of the few things Americans can say are theirs and in the clear. The government's already fuxored up in the housing department and now you want to do that to us in the name of the automobile? You think people want to buy those new vehicles that look like some kind of lizard with glow in the dark sticks attached to their brain? No one wants to land themselves $20,000 in debt when their vehicle will depreciate $4000 once it leaves the lot. Our 10, 20, 30, 40 year old vehicles which are still on the road, are cheap to maintain, don't require computers and they get better mileage. The only thing you're doing with this shitty program is shooting us in the foot. Buy a vehicle, keep it maintained for 40 years, it'll still run. There's no need to turn it in for something that runs like shit in the name of spitting out fluffy puppy dogs out of the muffler.
To the third party plastic distributors and Chinese aftermarket part shit shops on E-bay, fuck you. Your crap stinks. If you're going to build a fiberglass resin frame at least make sure it fits right. You turn around and import this in bulk to the US and give us all sales are final without final word of inspection? It'd be cheaper just to do the fiberglassing ourselves... could just as well it'd certainly save money.
To the wannabe Tonka monster trucks I see cruising the road. Your back window missing doesn't look good, it looks like shit. Raising your truck doesn't look good when you're using the stock wheels. That raised height is a disaster waiting to happen. Putting Semi-Truck smoke stacks on your truck makes you look like a wannabe poser that can't get a CDL license. This makes you a redneck. God help you if I find you changing your oil by propping your truck up on the curb... Don't drag your diesel truck in town, it makes you look like a tool. Diesel trucks serve one purpose, more power at low RPMs for pulling. This is hauling country, not some place for you to displace your integrity by drag racing in town. All of this crap you do makes the actual riced out monster trucks I see on the road - look bad. They did what you couldn't. That shiny bullbar on the front of your truck also looks like shit. The only reaso you need that is for when you are hauling in deer country. And for the love of mike, get that God damn tailgate up.
To the rice haters in the car community at large and especially among MR2 owners at large - what a person does with their car is their business. You have the right to also shut your mouth when it comes to rice. It's a term and you use it as an excuse to act like an idiot. Garaging your as a collector doesn't make you look cool, give you esteem or bragging rights. It means you are a responsible owner of a material possession (read: relic from the past). What you throw into your car or on top of it does not make you any cooler than the next person. We're flattered you enjoy your hobby, telling others how to move around in their hobby like your word or the community's is gospel truth is uncalled for. Not only is it disrespectful it also has no bearing on actual wisdom.
To the people that only notice my car after 3 years of driving in my hometown - FUCK YOU. I'm not impressed by your small talk about Toyota making a midship, nor do I need you hovering over me when I'm filling up air. I don't need anyone's old wives tails about what to do and what not to do with a car. I know more about automobiles than you will ever learn, I can actually change my god damn oil and fix the suspension and rip out the engine should I so please. I most certainly don't need you pulling along side informing me of a flat. I can feel it just fine on the back drive wheels thank you, I'm already limping home with my ego shattered and what little integrity I have.
To the woman at the bank that is flipping out about all of the crap in my car to your co-worker. FUCK YOU. I got a flat because of you. Distracting people in a narrow drive through is a bad idea - especially when it means I'M the one shelling out another $40 on tires I just bought the other day.
To the Chevrolet Camaro owners that insist on replacing screws with original factory screws - FUCK FUCK FUCK YOU. Buy another god damn car and invest in it and give yourself an excuse to leave that relic garaged.
To other sports car owners - wave dammit. Turning up your nose is making the rest of us look bad. Speeding past me and dragging on the main road is a bad idea and will cause an accident. Don't ride my ass with no reason. For that matter, car owners that ride my ass, FUCK YOU. For the people that act like their car is the road to high class, you are wrong. No one cares about the shinies you've stuck into the engine, and we don't care about what performance enhancements you have in your car. IF your car works the way you want and you worked towards it - all the more power too you. But that crap means jack in town when the speed limit is 20-30mph. Even on the main highway revving too fast will get the attention of the cops on your ass in a hurry.
Also, that bigass screw on spoiler looks like shit and makes your MPG shit.
To muscle car owners - your car's frame is a death trap, not mine. That steel doesn't protect you contrary to belief. Your car's V6 and V8 is a gas guzzler, is expensive to maintain and the parts are not cheap. Calling my car a race car is an insult. Turning around and telling me your car's 0-60 time and the ability to smoke me is an insult. I can turn circles around and out handle your shitty car eight days out of the week.
To the people that add bells and whisles to your car. FUCK YOU. Your coffee can exhaust is louder than the train and sounds like crap, it also looks like crap on your fluro colored Honda. Your subwoofer's are impressing anybody. If you need to be heard that badly get a girlfriend, she'll glady listen to you AND return the intoxicating conversation. Your spinner rims also look stupid.
And lastly, to nature and Minnesota's wildlife - unleash as many mosquitoes as you want, I'll put a dent in your population when I drive at night. Your deer do not scare me, your snow drifts are abyssmal and your icey weather isn't enough to scare me into buying another car.
Good day all.

+1 on Welfare fraud, Spongers etc
Hate the way Kevin Cardiff got that €276,000 European job. After missing the €3.6billion. Just proves that its all about that small group of f*****s at the top doing each other favours
+1 on the insurance cartel. Also hate the way UK is able to insure modified cars and in Ireland, if we declared that we changed an intake, they would quadruple our premium.
Hate the govt for not continuing the support of E85 !!!

Absolutly hate it when you order a coffee/hot chocolate etc and its luke warm due to the stupidity of a few that like to burn themselves with hot beverages as they FAIL to realise they are hot
Pet pieve people who drive through flashing orange pedestrain crossings while people are trying to cross
Lastly the no. of women driving in little cars or anyone in little cars ie. pug's, kia's etc. at mad speeds on the motorway yet guys are the only possible dangerous drivers (granted we do crash more often but we also drive more of the time )

heres a few of mine...
1.people that pull out in front of you at the very last second(usually coffin dodgers)and instead of trying to pull away fast to avoid you hitting them they suddendly come to a halt while the car is still horizontal leaving you with nowhere to go but either into them or into an oncoming car.
2.people who skip you in queues(again usually some old relic)is one of my biggest hates and i stood it for years because i was young, quiet and didnt know any better.now when it happens i make sure i get right back in front of them sometimes expressing my anger if they give me a look as if i was in the wrong which they usually have the cheek to do!
3.people that park arseways and take up 2 parking spaces in parking lots
4.i can't stand when your in a shop waiting to be served and theres someone chatting at the counter for ages
5.people who drive in the fast lane on a motorway at 80 kph and wont let you pass.had an incident the other day with this so i passed on the inside lane and the guy started flashing me and it brought out a violent side of me that i never even thought i had and only for my family being with me at the time im pretty sure id be in a lot of trouble now.
6.taxi's thinking they own the street stopping where theres crowds and waiting till they fill the bus up.there always at it in my town.
7.the new fashion of decorating cars with stupid stickers.i think theres nothin worse than stickers on cars.manufacturer and some aftermarket company ones are ok but all this jdm shite and cartoon type stickers are ruining cars in this country and make em look tacky.big huge blitz and trd stickers on the window and accross the bonnet would be another example.its just terrible.
im sure theres loads more but that'l do for now

Absolutly hate it when you order a coffee/hot chocolate etc and its luke warm due to the stupidity of a few that like to burn themselves with hot beverages as they FAIL to realise they are hot
I've never understood why hot drinks are generally served undrinkably hot. I don't see the point of getting a drink and waiting for it to cool. I'm not a tea or coffee drinker but I remember listening to a self proclaimed coffee expert on the radio a while ago who reckoned that this was an Irish phenomenon.

(granted we do crash more often but we also drive more of the time)
I don't think that's the case, as far as I know a considerably higher percentage of car crashes are caused by women but when guys crash the claims tend to be a hell of a lot more expensive.

I don't agree. Sounds like you're inventing a reason for why you're too lazy to walk across the car park.
My 2c
I have to agree with Spanky on that, big business cares about nothing other than it's bottom line. If they could make more money by getting rid of those family parking spaces they'd be gone in the morning.
While I wouldn't normally park in family spaces, I have in the past. And if I was in a full car park and saw one of these spots empty I wouldn't hesitate to park in it. If i didn't then the person behind who doesn't have a family with him would.
