As the title would suggest, Christmas is nearly upon us.

I am proposing a Christmas night out with some food and drink and plenty of craic and slagging.

Why: Continental market is in town

I think the plan is to meet in the German Beer tent in the middle of the market, near the front door of the City Hall. If anyone is coming and wants my mobile number PM me by Friday lunchtime and I will send it to you.

If anyone else wants to join us then just pop along, I am planning to be there from 5pm (straight after work) so anytime after that should be good. We may move on somewhere else if there isn't much craic so keep in touch if you are planning to come down later.

I had the best intentions of going to this but with my car off the road, paying for a return train, hotel, drinks and food, etc. is more than I can justify paying for a night out so unfortunately I won't make it

Once again a disappointingly poor turnout. From a potential 10 we ended up with 2, neither of which were from MR2.ie. A couple of 'old timers' joined us later on - Pigpen and Gwrinkle - and we also met a magical pixie at the bar

We had an excellent night but it is the same problem as other events this year. People put their names down and then dont bother to turn up or back out at the last minute. After 3 events with this happening this year I have now taken the hint and wont bother you again. If you want to know about any MR2OC events then have a look over there - I wont be posting them on here anymore

Looking back over the thread, as far as I can tell anyone who put their name down from mr2.ie made their excuses beforehand. I apologise for my part anyway but I thought I had a ride up to Belfast and a place to stay, I just couldn't justify paying for a train and hotel on top of everything else.

How's the hand after holding those glasses for the night?! I was at Oktoberfest in Dublin this year where they had them and my hand was in bits the next morning!

Some people did make their excuses, some of the excuses were that they had a different night out to go to ... no matter which was organised first this is just rude, other waited until the day before or day of. Some left their name as a 'maybe' when they had no intention of turning up.

I find myself getting annoyed every time I try to organise something. There is an amount of time and effort that goes into each thing and to be returned by people who cant be bothered with basic politeness has just gotten to me.

A one off is one thing, but this is the third time this year so that's why I am saying no more .... remember my rant after the coast road run when people just didn't bother turning up.

Sorry Mark, but I dont see why I should bother trying to organise things for people who cant be arsed with even basic decency ... fuck them

Most people are on MR2OC anyway, so they will get whatever is planned through that site.

I hold my hands up and apologise for only letting you know the day before that I wouldn't make it, I had known since last weekend. I was meant to be going up with the gf and staying in her friend's house but then my gf couldn't go. It was only when I saw the thread again that I remembered

In mr2.ie's defence, there was only 3 of us on a list of 10, if only 2 showed up as you say then the majority of offenders were from mr2oc. I accept your point though that it's the 3rd time and how frustrating it must be, especially when you're buying food for people who don't show up.

I think part of the problem is that meets are so regular now that people are more likely to pass them off thinking they can just go to the next one. When I first got my mr2 I went to a meet that was happening a couple of weeks later and I think that was possibly the only organised mr2 meet in Ireland that year. This year with all the cars and coffee's, mini weekly meets and other meets organised on both sites there may have been 25-30 meets?! Another problem I think is how far in advance the meets are organised, and I know they have to be so people can save the date. Maybe the solution is to let people register their interest when a meet thread is posted and then confirm numbers via PM 7-10 days before the meet?

If you want I can post on here when there's a meet organised and lock the thread so that all the sign ups will come through mr2oc? I'll leave the decision up to you.

All I can say is work unfortunetly comes first and my plans to leave early did not go to plan! I think this is the first time I said I would attend and did not.

Glad ye seemed to have a good time even with the small numbers and really kinda a little sad i missed the little pixie with the massive beer haha
