Induction kit 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 18
Hey guys,

I currently have a HKS SPF fit and Anto with his usual attention to detail noticed the foam insert will need changing soon. I have heard a number of things on the interwebs that say the foam filters are not great so was curious to get your opinions on this and to whether a Apexi Power Intake would be a good upgrade?

Yikes that doesnt look good for my filter at all at all!! I wonder if the amterials have stayed the same since that test was done? Really poor showing if its true!

Gonna look into the pricing of the APEXi unit, will I need to buy the whole system or is the mounting system smiliar to the HKS (silly questions :-P )

Also if anyone has one for sale let me know as they are hard to find on ebay mostly from USA/Asia

Thanks again Sean

Its a turbo and I tend to drive it like I stole it so the best performance filter is what I want

Apexi is loud. You can't hear the stock turbo spooling up it's that loud.

Another option is the Blitz Sonic Power

I quite like these, they're high quality, washable elements, and have a cover so when it rains your car doesn't burp and fart from water soak in the inlet.

Not cheap though, but is anything good really cheap?

Quandry afaik the MR2 version of the APEXI POWER intake comes with a rain guard also.

I wish there was a proper test done on the properties of each kit ie. filter/flow performance. The APEXI looks likt its a good happy medium better filtration than the HKS but not as expensive as the Blitz! Blitz is a metal mesh filter isnt it?

Quandry do you think its a good option to move from the HKS to a APEXI

I'm not sure on HKS vs Apexi, no personal experience there. I presume they're much of a muchness on the dyno so it comes down to fit, noise, and looks?

Ya it wasnt really from an "I am gonna make so much hp from this" more a which one will stop the shite gettin in the engine lol On my car alot of dirt from the road etc. seems to be thrown up in the direction of the filter so was thinking the APEXi with the rain shield below it as a "mud guard" of sorts

ah ok silly me.

I could be wrong but I think the guard only covers one side so you would only have it on the bottom or only on the top? that's why I liked the Blitz one as it goes the whole way around.

Ah no twas a valid comment I was just been a smart ass from cork :-p Our roads are shite so alot of crap seems to fly up through the ducts on the side.

And your right it is only one side so either a rain guard or a mud guard lol

Was leaning towards the APEXI as I have a trade set up on one if I want it so was curious to see people opinions. The internet varies alot on the topic! So the more I read the more i am confused

Best cure for that is an N/A engine conversion

I've had all 3 of those filters, hks mushroom filter, blitz sus power and the apexi super intake.
Personally I did like the sound of the HKS when I had it, the Blitz and the apexi are much louder and I think the apexi is slightly louder again than the blitz.
IMO theres not that much difference between the blitz and the apexi, but the apexi slightly takes it for me for loudness and performance gains.
